Avila College News

Dear Avila Community,

Our week of remote learning has again been a reflection of the strength of our Avila community. Students sharing a commitment to achieving their best academic outcomes, a wholesome belief in the importance of offering emotional and social support to each other and an attitude of ‘let’s make the best of our circumstances’. On Thursday this Avila spirit came through strong and loud in our whole school lunch time Zumba!

A reminder to our school community to continue to check exposure sites and to follow the directions of the Department of Health. Our community wide commitment to the health of all is a credit to Victorians embracing the importance of doing whatever we can to keep others safe.

As we continue on this journey together, please do not hesitate to reach out if you need support. I also encourage you to find something joyful to smile about whenever you can and share that with your peers, teachers and classes. You might just bring a smile to someone unexpectedly!

Wash your hands, wear a mask and take care,

Dr Michelle Cotter | Principal

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Father, You teach us here that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun. Grant us by your Spirit the wisdom to know when it is time to plant, and when to uproot; when it is time to tear down, and to build; to keep and to throw away. May we know when it is time to weep and mourn, and when it is time to laugh and dance. Remind us that there is also a time to heal, and a time for peace.

By your grace, may each of us be happy and do good while we live. Grant us the gift of finding satisfaction in all we do.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen

VCE Update

The GAT - New Date

In light of current restrictions, Avila College has received notification that The General Achievement Test (GAT) will be rescheduled to 12 August, pending further public health advice and logistical constraints on that date. Classes will be as timetabled on Thursday 29 July.

VCAA have also advised that the Consideration of Educational Disadvantage process will be used to finalise VCE results for each and every student completing one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3-4 sequence in 2021 and also for VCAL students. The process will also include assessments of the individual impact of coronavirus on each student including school closures, direct impacts on student health, ongoing issues with remote learning and mental health challenges.

Avila College staff will support students in the CED application process later in the year.

Design Technology

Remote Learning in Action

Year 10 Design & Technology students have been analysing hoodies, t-shirts and pants to prepare for making their own in class.

Year 8’s have been counting clothes and discovering the impact their choices have. Also upcycling unwanted t-shirts into bags!

Year 7 student Heather Cassidy has penned a science inspired poem while in lockdown.

Us solid particles, we stick together don't you know, we vibrate but always stay with each other, we don't go. We make up your clothes, your books, and your nose!

Hi, we are liquid particles, you'll see us in many articles. We often go on trips and visit our new friends, whether they're next to us or on opposite ends. We love to pop in and say hello! So now you know how we spend our days... Making up your coffee, milk and cafes!

So much energy we are gas particles! Never know where we are going, we move to our own knowing, rarely passing buddies on the way! We flow around the place with so much speed, the fact we are too energetic is guaranteed! You can't see us but we are in the air, your fuel, your gas, but you can learn about that In class!
