Avila College News

Dear Avila Community

This week we saw the Melbourne Spring do all the predictable things we expect and love (and some times whinge about) and there is indeed much joy in that! The sunny mornings on gate duty have been a great opportunity to chat with students and to hear their continued delight about being onsite and learning in person.

Congratulations to all students who have diligently continued their optimistic, hopeful and fun-filled approach to being part of the Avila family. I am very much loving that we are back together, and as much as possible doing what "we do" and getting the most out of learning and community life.

In this month of remembrance, we pay particular attention in our hearts, minds and prayers, to those we have lost and to all those who miss and fondly remember them. May perpetual light shine upon all of those loved ones.

Our Year 12 class continue to undertake their VCE written examinations and are to be commended on their diligence.

Every best wish for the weekend ahead.
Happy Learning!

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

This image is called 'The Eternal Choir' by Australian Artist Di Bresciani. It is a beautiful depiction of  'the great crowd of witnesses' encompassing us.

As we remember them... family members, friends, loved ones, forgotten ones, the many lost in this pandemic we remember them with reverence and gratitude.

"Surrounded as we are, by so great a cloud of witnesses..." (Heb 12:1)

Amen

Learning in Action

It has been a busy week of face-to-face learning and teaching at Avila as all our students returned to school.

Year 8 Science students dissected flowers.

Year 9 students studied aviation.
Thanks to the work of Dr Floyed, Avila College is one of the recipients of a STEM Aviation Project grant which sees Year 9 students designing their own aircraft then testing it.

Year 9 3D Studio Arts students created ceramic sculptures.
Year 10 Literature student Sienna Lucas was inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Year 11 Product Design and Technology students worked on their Cinderella gown and quilt (inspired by The Rainbow Fish book).
Year 9 AgHort students prepared the garden bed for indigenous plants.
Year 8 History students explored calligraphy.
VET Hospitality students prepared an ancient grain salad.

VCE Season of Excellence

Top Designs

Congratulations to Year 12 student Zoe Nunn who has been shortlisted for the 2022 Top Designs exhibition, a showcase of the best work created by VCE students. Zoe developed a design for homeless youths.

College Life

Late Arrival/Early Departure

Now that all students are back at school, we have a friendly reminder for families about the late arrival and early departure procedures.
  • If a student is late to school, they need to come to school with a note or a parent/guardian must call to let us know the student will be late.

  • If a student needs to leave early, they need to bring a note to school and give it to the HR teacher or the parent/guardian needs to email/call the school.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
