Avila College News

It has been a wonderful celebration of community at Avila College this week. We started with the energetic Athletics Carnival on Monday, which proved to be a lively and colourful demonstration of house spirit, school pride and sporting prowess. Everyone got involved, participating in a range of track and field events and supporting each other with enthusiastic encouragement. We were also delighted to raise over $2000 on the day for Eat Up Australia, MacKillop Family Services and Vinnies with the sausage sizzle and cake stall.

Our Mother's Day Breakfast yesterday was another opportunity to come together as a multi-generational community and celebrate the special women in our lives. Thank you to all who attended and our fabulous performers, VET Hospitality students, stage crew and ambassadors who entertained and welcomed our attendees.
This week there has also been much laughter and fun in the Principal's office as Year 12 students join me for morning tea and receive their special 'Be The Light' purple keep cup. Together with their teachers, we have been reflecting on their favourite Avila memories and chatting about future directions. It has been an absolute delight to hear about so many diverse highlights and the passion they have for their school.

Happy learning!

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Blessed be all mothers
Who have come into our lives
Whose kindness, care and loving
Remain with us to guide.
Lord, bless our mothers
with wisdom to teach and guide in a way that will help others to follow You and to become people who will be pleasing in Your sight.
May each mother
be granted a special blessing,
and may all of the work of her hands
not be forgotten in Your sight.

House Athletics Carnival

The House Athletics Carnival was held at Bill Sewart Athletics Track. It was an exciting and eventful day for all, shown through the colourful costumes on display and loud cheering as students gave their all out on the track and field. Students competed in many events throughout the day in which they were enthusiastic and willing to give their best!

The day started with the Reynolds Relay where the four fastest runners from each house competed, with Chisholm taking out the win. We also held the Avila Gift which identifies the fastest sprinter at Avila. Congratulations to Cheyenne Van Ravenstein from Year 9. The day then came to a close with the relays in which the runners were cheered on by their houses.
We would like to congratulate and thank everyone for their efforts throughout the day whether they were competing, cheering on their peers or helping out with fundraising and running the events. A big congratulations to Chisholm who won the House Athletics Shield with the greatest amount of points accumulated over the day and Mackillop for winning the House Spirit Award.

Year 7 Reading Challenge

All Year 7 English classes have started Term 2 of the Reading Challenge in the library with some Sentence Art. Students were given pages from deleted books and were asked to be creative and select words from the page to create their own sentence, phrase or verse. They then had to block out everything else with images that work with their new sentence.
