Dear Avila Community,

What a fabulous start to Term 2 we have enjoyed here at Avila. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces enter the gates each morning and embrace so many different and varied learning opportunities together, as a community, at school.

I trust that everyone has enjoyed a restful break over the Easter period as we have launched back into school with a flurry of activity. Our musicians enjoyed the chance to harmonise together with the Mazenod orchestra, Creative Arts rehearsals are well underway, our stage crew have been busy preparing and setting up for numerous events and Year 9 students are busy exploring the city as they investigate how to bring our city's economy, culture and tourism industry back to life post COVID.

Earlier this week we paid our respects to those who have served our country with an ANZAC Day liturgy. We also recognised the legacy of Venerable Nano Nagle, the Lady of the Lantern and Founder of the Presentation Sisters, whose courage, compassion and belief in the power of education continues to shine a light on us all, more than three hundred years after her death.

As a learning community we continue to adapt and adhere to the directives from MACS and the Victorian government to minimise risk and maintain face-to-face opportunities for all our classroom and co-curricular activities. Thank you to all our students, staff and families for following the protocols, registering Positive and Household contacts and keeping our community safe. If your daughter is a Household Contact and additional tests are needed we will do our best to supply them, if available at school. Please email to request additional tests in this situation.

I look forward to a vibrant and dynamic Term 2 together.
Happy Learning!

Faith & Mission

THE RESURRECTION is a message of unparalleled hope—and unparalleled joy.

A seriously underappreciated part of the Christian life, joy undergirds Jesus’ preaching, is the fruit of most of his miracles and is the most natural response to the Resurrection.

Consider how often the word is mentioned in some form in the Gospels:
“Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, `I thank you, Father. . .”‘
“The entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing.”
“You have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”
“Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.”
“While in their joy they were disbelieving…”
“The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.”
(Fr James Martin S.J Jesus, A Pilgrimage)
We offer this prayer:

Dear Lord,
May I realise afresh today what Your death and resurrection mean for me. Forgiveness, freedom, and the ability to walk with You through this fallen world into eternity. May I always find my satisfaction in You and Your willingness to offer Yourself to me.
