4 February 2022 Issue 1

Dear Avila Community,

Welcome to the new school year - a year to Create together - building our community spirit, supporting each other, sharing a sense of adventure and embracing deep inquiry. This year is full of possibilities and I know our Year 12 Class of 2022 will step forward and lead the way for us all, Creating new ways of being our best selves and along the way inspiring each of us to strive for our own excellence.

We also welcome our newest community members - the Year 7 Class of 2022. You are just beginning to create your Avila experience and I know you’ll do a great job of creating an awesome first year of secondary school and we will all be here cheering you on.

To Create is many things, including being brave, adventurous and hopeful.

To embrace our College theme of ‘Create’  is a fabulous opportunity for collaboration. As we Create we step boldly into the future of 2022, together, knowing that nothing is impossible.

We Create the year ahead day by day, in small ways and sometimes in big ways...with a shared vision, a commitment to action and individual spirit.

Best wishes for the year ahead to all members of the Avila family. I look forward to us Creating a fabulous year with and for each other and led by a creative and talented team of students leaders.

Happy Learning!

Weekly Prayer

A Prayer to the Creator

Lord, Father of our human family,
you created all human beings equal in dignity:
pour forth into our hearts a fraternal spirit
and inspire in us a dream of renewed encounter,
dialogue, justice and peace.
Move us to create healthier societies and a more dignified world,
a world without hunger, poverty, violence and war.

May our hearts be open
to all the peoples and nations of the earth.
May we recognize the goodness and beauty
that you have sown in each of us,
and thus forge bonds of unity, common projects,
and shared dreams.

Amen

VCE Season of Excellence

Top Class Theatre Studies & Dance

We are proud to announce that Amelia Pawsey (2021) and Year 12 student Sophie Parks have been selected to perform at the prestigious Top Class Theatre Studies performance at The Playhouse and the Top Class Dance concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre respectively, in March this year. Congratulations Amelia (Theatre Studies) and Sophie (Dance).

The following video is a recreation of Amelia Pawsey’s perfect-score A+ Year 12 Theatre Studies monologue exam from 2021. Amelia, performs the character of Emilia, the title character from a 2018 play set in Elizabethan England performed at The Globe Theatre in London.

The monologue is taken from three different parts of the play: the first section showing Emilia as a young playful child, then as an adult, and finally as a wise 76-year old. Amelia selected the music in the piece and composed some of it herself.
