Avila College News

Dear Avila Community,

As our first semester of 2021 draws to a close, I would like to congratulate all students on their commitment, energy and enthusiasm throughout the last two terms. We have once again demonstrated that we can adapt, pivot and be flexible when required, yet still retain our connections and learn in different ways.

At the start of the year, we pledged to Be The Light and that has certainly been the case with creativity, teamwork, faith, sportsmanship, social justice, music, leadership and a strong sense of community shining brightly at Avila College.

I trust that you will have a rejuvenating mid-semester break and have an opportunity to spend time with family, relax a little and of course read some great books. We look forward to seeing you back at Avila for an exciting Term 3.

Stay warm, keep safe and be healthy.

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We thank you for this term, for the challenges, the successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt.

Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends. Give us strength and courage to do what is right; to be witnesses of our faith.

Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others, to be peacemakers in our family.

Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term.

We thank you for our students, colleagues, parents and a community that cares for us. May we always be conscious of you in our lives.

Reporting and Feedback Update

With the changed timeline for Years 9 to 11 exams due to remote learning requirements, the release of student reports has been changed to Friday July 23.

Engaging with students and families in conversations about learning and what the next steps for growth are is critical for improvement. In the past students and families have been invited to participate in face-to-face conversations twice a year onsite and more recently using video conferencing tools.

We would like to know what best supports students and families and would appreciate you taking two minutes to complete this short survey.

The judge's choice award went to & Gold's Team One, who designed the SXF app to detect skin cancer. The judges commented on their excellent prototype, detailed research and clarity of communication. Congratulations Heather, Sofia, Mia, Chloe and Chiara.
