Avila College News

Dear Avila Community

There is much to be joyous about this week - despite the wild weather on Friday!
  • Our Year 12 cohort commenced their VCE written exams. Following much detailed planning, communication and logistics the Avila examination centre has been a great venue for our students to perform at their best, safely and quietly.

  • All year levels have returned to face to face teaching at least in part. There has been a distinct spring in the steps and smiles beneath the masks as students have entered through the gates and into their classrooms.

  • With Victoria moving through the different phases of the Covid Road Map we are now able to begin planning with eased restrictions for activities for school settings. We are carefully planning for the remainder of the year. In some cases we are deferring activities until next year but others will go ahead in term four. Students and families will be kept informed and the College Calendar will be updated as plans are finalised.
Every best wish for the Melbourne Cup long weekend, it will be a great chance to recharge, relax and ready for the return of all students and all staff onsite from Wednesday 3 November.

Happy Learning!

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Giver of all wisdom and greatest of all teachers,

Look upon our teachers and all those who work in schools with love, grant them the resolve to never give up on our children who at times fall behind.

Bless their hearts for they rejoice when students succeed and encourage them when we fail.

Bless them with gentle patience for the path of learning is never easy.

Help them see the potential in each student and instil in them a commitment to keep on learning.

Let the light of your example shine upon all teachers and school staff  to build up with their words, to love with their mind and to share with their heart.

Amen

Community

Thank You

Avila College received a telephone call from a local citizen this week, praising Year 8 student, Annabelle Horvath. Annabelle found a lost seven year old girl in her neighbourhood and "came to her rescue", comforting and reassuring her as they navigated her way back home, which took some time.

The little girl's parents were incredibly grateful and in their words, explained that "Annabelle went above and beyond and was absolutely wonderful, mature and responsible in her approach to a challenging situation".

Thank you Annabelle.
