United News
We are trying "new stuff" on the fifth Sunday. This coming Sunday will be a Taizé worship service. Originally from France, Taizé Community formed a unique space for faith travelers to stay, explore, and interact with each other from different backgrounds, languages, and ways of worshipping. Short scriptural hymns and chants are used in Taizé worship. Based mainly on Christianity, Taizé Community recreates "live daily life as a prayer and encounter God in between," which draws people worldwide to visit and form their own "Taizé space" after they return according to their contexts. Our denominations also adopt this concept and practice in different gatherings. It's been called one of the most impactful ecumenical movements in our time, especially for younger adults. Every week, 5,000 new visitors stay there. And most of the visitors are between 18 to 29 years old. You can find more stories about Taizé by visiting their website (click the link).

Ecumenical News
United Methodists Lose 1,800 Churches in Split Over LGBT Stance - The initial departures, mostly concentrated in the South, represent around 6 percent of the denomination—not as dramatic as the “schism” some feared. But whatever the final tally may be, the analysis suggests the country’s second-largest Protestant denomination—numbering 6.4 million US members and 13 million worldwide—may weaken but is unlikely to break. “You think of a schism as 50 percent or even 35 percent (split),” said Scott Thumma, director of the Hartford Institute for Religion Research and a lead researcher for the 2020 US Religion Census. “This is not a real schism.” “Our provision that allows for disaffiliation is based on a church reaching the conviction that they can’t stay a part of the denomination over matters of human sexuality,” said Bickerton, president of the Council of Bishops. “What we find is that people are using that paragraph to disaffiliate for other reasons.”

Notes from the Congregational Conversation Part One
and the Appeal For The Children Community Fund Campaign
Dear Congregation:
We began a conversation on Sunday (see notes below). We hope to continue on Sunday, January 8, 2023. We need your help. Please use templates to mail to family, friends, community and business members. Help us get Little People Day Care pen by improving our building. We appreciate and love each of you. Pastor Charlene Hill & UCHP Council
Appeal For The Children Community Fund Campaign: Below is a mission close to my heart. As a member of the United Church of Hyde Park, I am looking for your advice and support to complete our goal of bringing needed childcare services to our community. Can you please spread the word to your friends and family during these closing weeks of the year. Thank you for your help! See you in the New Year! The United Church of Hyde Park and Little People Learning have been working to bring a daycare facility to the Hyde Park neighborhood over the last 18 months. We are close to our goal to open early in 2023. The funding for the project is almost complete. Please help us finish the job (Note from Nevin Hedlund)!
Why are we at UCHP doing all this work? Because this expresses our mission. We are a church located in the heart of the city, on our way together, doing our best to serve one another and our neighborhood. Our neighborhood needs more pre-school centers for young children. We have a building which we view as a resource for ministry, therefore we can help. So we are upgrading our building for early childhood education. We have invested heavily to make our building much safer.  We have met new fire code and other standards. We have upgraded our heating system, many classrooms, and prepared this old building for a new ministry. We have done all this because we are followers of Jesus, the only great religious leader who made a place for children among his followers (note from Rev. Paul Dietterich).
