As we face the challenges and uncertainties of current global health concerns, we are grateful for grounding moments in nature. The smell of a spring flower, the rhythmic sound of raindrops in Los Angeles, and the awe-inspiring strength of the 600+ trees in the canopy of our Garden are helping us take a moment to breathe and navigate difficult times.

The UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden remains open to the public and free to visit. The Garden is an open-air space, with low density of visitors in any given area, and few frequently touched surfaces. As such, we believe it is relevant and safe to remain open in accordance with information from Los Angeles County, UCLA, and the CDC. We hope to continue to be a space of serenity for the public. We do not anticipate this changing, but plan to post any changes in operation to our website.

We have cancelled or postponed upcoming public events and tours in accordance with current UCLA guidelines and look forward to hopefully rescheduling some of these in the future. The volunteer program is currently suspended for now. We appreciate all of the support, dedication, and hard work volunteers bring to the Garden, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We hope that you are taking precautions to help protect yourselves and your community from the spread of COVID-19. Specifically during your visits, we suggest you maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other guests, try not to touch surfaces, maintain good hygiene by washing your hands, and do not visit if you or someone you have been in contact with is feeling sick. Thank you for your help in keeping this oasis open to the public. We will continue to provide updates as needed.
