SciFly NYC // 108 // Speculating a Collective Vision for Emerging Futures

Weekly Events 1/6 - 1/12

Hey SciFly Readers!

It's great to be back and welcome to 2020!!!

I know I usually do my annual resolutions review this week, but we just posted an AMAZING event for the Speculative Futures NYC Meetup and I couldn't wait to tell you all about it!

So... resolutions post next week. More importantly, you absolutely have to check out our next great event, Holoptic Foresight Dynamics: Designing Collective Vision for Emerging Futures.

Two of my favorite futurists, instructors, speakers, and friends (Yvette Salvatico & Frank Spencer) are coming back to NYC for a special Meetup to talk about the practice of Holoptic Foresight Dynamics (HFD), an evolutionary movement away from mindsets that promote survival to thinking that fosters future-empowered transformation.

Check out the event details below, and I really hope you can join us for the event in February!!!

Holoptic Foresight Dynamics: Designing Collective Vision for Emerging Futures

When it comes to futures thinking, technology usually gets all of the attention. However, the role of technology has always been that of a co-evolutionary helpmate. (Remember, fire and roads are technology, not just your iPhone). Over the years, we have helped clients and audiences to realize that “the future is about people.” This means that if we are going to live together in generative futures, we must focus on our “people problem.”

To this end, it is imperative that we work to “democratize the future.” This means that we must open the future to all voices, and empower humanity with the tools to create aspirational change and transformation. However, it’s not enough to identify trends or recognize emerging landscapes of change if we are going to truly design better tomorrows. We must actively promote an intentional evolution toward a collective futures-orientation in humanity - in our businesses, institutions, cities, governments and individual lives. We call this evolutionary dance Holoptic Foresight Dynamics.

What is Holoptic Foresight Dynamics?
HFD is the use of widespread foresight development efforts across all domains to foster the intentionally-fashioned evolutionary trait in humanity of collective futures-minded directionality. Beyond a transformational change in human systems or human activity, HFD is an evolutionary movement away from mindsets that promote survival to thinking that fosters future-empowered transformation.

Speculative Futures NYC is excited to welcome back Yvette Montero Salvatico & Frank Spencer, Principals at Kedge & Founders/Lead Instructors of The Futures School, for an evening of applied learning that will allow you to begin exploring this critical shift in human thinking and action.

As part of the meetup, participants will:

• Learn about the HFD approach as it relates to participatory foresight and human development.
• Practice the future-empowered mindsets of “Sense, Mesh and Transform” to build landscapes of change.
• Work through the “Inside-Out/Outside-In” framework to engage collective experiential futuring, emergent thinking, and constructivist foresight.
