SciFly NYC // 105 // 'tis the Season for Speculation

Weekly Events 12/9 - 12/15

Hey SciFly Readers!

Sadly I'm a bit under the weather, so a short intro this week so I can get some extra sleep before braving work tomorrow morning.

Looking for some 'speculative' holiday events? How about a great market that isn't all the same 3 types of candles, hand soap, and dishtowels? A cool workshop you can take your kids to (or your nieces/nephews/friend's kids?) Look no further! I've luckily found a couple of great alternatives taking place this weekend to help you do something a little bit different. :D

'Speculative' Holiday Events This Weekend

Social Justice Holiday Market [12/14 & 12/15] @ MayDay Space // BK // Free - a gathering of small vendors selling all things social justice-y... so you don't have to buy corporate crap for your loved ones, and can instead uplift local artists, makers, and community-led efforts.

Queering Capitalism Holiday Market [1215] @ 3 Dollar Bill // BK // Free - an alternative marketplace to support and invest in the creations of the Queer community while divesting from toxic capitalism. (18+)

The A/D/O Shop Supermarket [12/15] // BK // Free - stock up on gifts for the design lover in your life as well as a few things for yourself. The A/D/O Shop Supermarket features unique giftable objects, prints, as well as limited-edition apparel and artwork from Actual Source. There will be live screen-printing and Risograph printing throughout the day.

'Tis the Season Toy Making Family Workshop [12/15] @ Futureworks Makerspace // BK // $20 - $25 - Make a simple wooden toy out of scrap pine, maple or oak wood in a variety of shapes, including people and animals.

Faux Gingerbread Build-And-Smash: December Make-Along [12/15] @ NYC Resistor // BK // $15 - Have you always wanted to build a ridiculous bit of confectionary architecture? Do you fantasize about reenacting a monster rampage through a cityscape? Come and we'll provide supplies and tips for building a crazy faux gingerbread houses out of graham crackers, cookies, and candy. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, you’ll have the option to take it home to show off (and nibble on), or else you can join in the cookie carnage... as we have a photoshoot of Godzilla smashing the freshly made cityscape.

Read on for this week's great speculative events!
