Council Updates
Christmas Eve Service is VIRTUAL Only

Good evening, Unity friends.

I have some disappointing news to share with you.

After significant consideration and discussions within Worship and Life and your Council, we have made the difficult decision to insist that our members do not attend the Christmas Eve service in person.

Due to new provincial restrictions encouraging us to limit in-person contacts, we strongly encourage our members & families to join our Christmas Eve worship service online via the Zoom link in this email or from our website at  The Zoom link will open at 5:45 pm and the service will begin at 6:00 pm, tomorrow evening.

The Zoom link for the Christmas Eve service can be found here:

The sad reality is that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is posing new hazards due its unusual level of contagiousness. In limited studies, it is showing an ability to break through vaccinations and even our typical precautions such as wearing masks and sanitizing hands. Therefore, until more and/or better information is available from the scientists, it is out an abundance of caution that I feel we must act in this way.

Only the participants and direct helpers in the service will be present at the church — i.e. Nancy, Vicki, Leah, Mike, etc.

We know it is not the same, but we are hopeful that we will still have a large and enthusiastic turnout on Zoom. Thank you for your understanding.

Many of you have already provided direct feedback about the Congregational Letter which was mailed out last week.

However, for those who did not receive a copy, would like to print out a duplicate, or simply like perusing a digital version, you may access it as a .pdf file here.

As usual, you are encouraged to share it with anyone you feel might be interested in the future of Unity.

And in conclusion, I have some uplifting news to share in regards to Pastor Jeff.

In my last conversation with him, he told he feels "good". It brings me gratitude to know that his time away provided him genuine healing. Furthermore, as recommended by his doctor and administered by the ELCIC Group Benefits through the third-party company Windley Ely, Pastor Jeff will be entering their "Gradual Return to Work" program in the new year.

To try to summarize what that could look like: the current (tentative) plan is that Pastor Jeff will remain under Short Term Disability coverage until January 30 -- Unity will continue to be reimbursed for the full amount of his earned salary during this period. However, he will formally begin fulfilling some work duties on Sunday, January 2 (he will not be delivering a sermon right away, for example), then gradually working up from very limited duties at first to more-or-less full regular duties in February.

I trust that his doctor understands Pastor Jeff's needs, so I am glad to support this Gradual Return to Work program.

May we all perceive God's spirit working through us in this season of hope and expectation.
