Dear <<First Name>>,

Mental Health Seminar

Organised by our Club Welfare Officer (CWO), Judy Sarsby, this full day event took place last Wednesday led by a trainer from The Grace Dear Trust. Our thanks to Elmbridge Canoe Club for hosting, which they did very well.

The seminar was informative and went through a number of outlines from defining mental health (and ill mental health) to depression and worse, and included information on anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. There is more of it about than we might expect and it affects all ages. Coaches were in attendance from British Rowing, Weybridge RC, Weyfarers RC, Molesey Boat Club, Elmbridge Canoe Club, Surbiton Hockey Club and other youth clubs and interested parties.

We all left with a much better understanding of how people might be affected and what might be signs of potential problems.

Weybridge Silver Sculls 2021, Saturday October 16th

Weybridge Silver Sculls, Saturday October 16th

We are short of volunteers - my email of September 25th refers. Please do offer to assist if you can do so. It's important. It's on October 16th.

We need not only entries from Weybridge members, but also help on the day. The usual convention is that if you wish to compete in the event, you help out at the event.

Not competing? No problem, you can help too!

Please do join in — it's an important event for the Club — simply sign up here or via the button below, thank you.

Left clothing in changing rooms

I have written before about the amount of clothing left behind in the changing rooms, particularly the mens'.  I had another look yesterday and it seems to be self-propagating (as well as festering). There is some nice stuff there, lightweight rain jackets, tops and bottoms, hoodies etc. This is your last chance to claim it — and if not done by next Sunday I will pass the whole lot to Judy who will arrange for it to be sent to assist those in the camps at Calais (you might recall she arranged a collection of clothes last December).

Dry clothing

And on a similar subject: an appeal for unwanted clothes that can be left in the changing rooms in a bag marked for accidental water incidents — as in, "I fell in but didn't have a change of clothes because I wasn't actually rowing but tripped over something on the pontoon" type accidents. We always used to have a bag with dry clothes which were returned washed and ready for re-use.

The Annual General Meeting… confirmed for this Thursday, September 30th via Zoom. The Notice of AGM was sent to members on September 9th — please check your spam/junk folder or promotions tab (Gmail users).

We can accommodate a small number in the clubroom on the night — please email if you would prefer to attend in person. The meeting link and papers shall follow shortly.

If you are a member of the Club, we urge you to join the meeting and (if over 16) you can vote for your new Club Committee, including principal officers for Captain, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Time Trials…

…are once again in operation. The first couple of the new season have been successful and enjoyable.

Helpers are always welcome — you can sign up here — with results posted here.

New racking

Thanks to Graham for fitting up the new racking opposite the ladies changing room — this is work in progress as is the plan to carpet it, rather than provide grass. Carpeting such as is used elsewhere on site will help to keep the dust down in summer and the mud in winter.

Diploma in Sports Excellence

Two of the Junior boys are working towards the Diploma in Sports Excellence run by British Rowing, as part of their pathway to the GB Rowing Team.

Covid news

Stay safe and remember: physical distancing and masks please, particularly Juniors! Covid is running riot at one of the local schools — very soon they won't need vaccinating as the whole year-group will have herd immunity...

Please remember to keep the more vulnerable members of the club safe.
