Dear <<First Name>>,

Following on from my comments about British Rowing's performance at the Tokyo Olympics, many thanks for those who contacted me. Things definitely are not as gloomy as the muck-raking media are making out!

And we are doing well across the board; congratulations to all our Olympians.

Members might also be interested to know that Olympic 'spares' Mat Tarrant and Morgan Bolding (WLT I think) are in action in the Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta next week, aim for GOLD  there. Mat has won all the other elite sweep events so he's hoping for the full set.

Junior Learn to Rows

We ran a successful junior Learn to Row last year with 10 youngsters introduced to the sport.

Community Regatta '21 #CommReg21

Another fabulously successful Community Regatta with enormous thanks to Anne, Rachel, Sharon and Theresa who created the day, and all the unsung helpers who helped plan, set up, break down and run the event. It raises funds for Club Equipment and brings together local businesses in a fun environment and despite blazing sunshine, torrential rain and a thunderstorm, at one point all at the same time, we put on an excellent show.

With breakfast at The Old Crown, lunch by Cappadocia (Kingston) and an excellent tea by Laila of Miss Polly (of Molesey Cricket Club) we certainly didn't go hungry. Key sponsors construction company Willmot Dixon and solicitors Russell Cooke were generous with their entries and praise for the event and it was pleasing that some crews who were unsuccessful in previous years came away with some sort of bling this year.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge Cllr Tony Popham and Jo Wright were with us for the afternoon and made a point in trying to talk to every guest and presented prizes at the end of the day. They too were fulsome in their praise as were all our guests.

As I said in my summing up: "If you can't be proud to be Captain of Weybridge Rowing Club today, then when?”

Willmott Dixon v. Willmott Dixon...
...going for Gold!

Summer training time

As the rowing events are over can I suggest that some of the training sessions are used to do maintenance work on your boats. We always used to do this - trestle the boats, remove the riggers, seats and runners, scrub (and I mean scrub) inside and outside, polish the hulls, clean the runners and wheels, check bow-balls etc. Then have a BBQ.

Me —> holiday

I shall be taking a break for a couple of weeks… Behave yourselves whilst I'm gone.
