WEY To Help Out: Learn To Row

With many thanks to all who are volunteering: we are able to host the Junior Learn To Row that was postponed back around Easter, now with social distancing very much in mind and in deed.

Spread over several days between June 22nd and July 2nd, we will be instructing seventeen 12 to 14 year-olds in the basics of boating, sequencing the stroke, blade control, capsize and recovery, correct racking, and some of all that rowing lingo.

Everyone will start out on our SUP Rowers and progress over four days to fine singles as appropriate.
In just over the last week, many thanks goes to...
  • Eric for completing the mammoth job of fixing the bay doors so they hang and slide properly;
  • Matthew H for doing cloth washing duty this week and Rachel for replenishing our supply of instant hand sanitiser;
  • Lukasz and Rachel for correcting the pitch on Turn the Other Csiki - now back in service;
  • Rachel for cleaning up 'TTRC' - also now back in service despite several dings to be repaired in time...
  • and Matt B and Maddy for doing a survey of all club singles, in particular taking note of the state of all shoes and hulls.
Please note: there has been a long-running, global supply issue of rowing shoes, but as soon as we have an update and receive those shoes already on back-order, we will be able to go about replacing those shoes most in need of replacing. In the meantime, please do not mark a boat as 'OOA' (unless it actually is!) and as far as possible, please tap the tub of reusable shoes stored under the workbench at the back of the boathouse - thank you.
