Dear <<First Name>>,

Henley Royal Regatta

Olympic 'spares' Mat Tarrant (WEY, WLT, MBC, OBU, etc.) and Morgan Bolding (WLT, I think) won their Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta last week. Mat has won all the other elite sweep events so now he has the full set.

Junior Learn to Row

We ran our second successful August junior Learn to Row this week with another 7 youngsters introduced to the sport. My thanks to the juniors and adults who willingly helped with both the D56 and D57 courses.

We ran a successful junior Learn to Row last year with 10 youngsters introduced to the sport.

Car parking on the Ait

I should remind all members that the car parking wardens have come out of their covid-induced shell and are back on the warpath. Please do NOT park outside the 8 official parking bays on the Ait; our cleaners were apparently 'done' last week. I saw a dog-walker's vehicle parked one-wheel on the pavement being ticketed a couple of weeks ago — amusing to see him sprinting across the park, dog excitedly chasing him — and one of our junior's dads was all presented with an unwelcome gift recently. You have been warned… again!

Warning: Skiffing Regatta

There will be a buoy defined skiff and punt racing regatta course towards the lower part of the Reach from early morning 6:30am until 3:00pm this Saturday, August 21st, with warning boards placed on dinghies at both ends.

The course will be on the Surrey side of the river, from opposite the Black Swan Sea Scouts to just above the Gridley Miskins Wharf (just above Walton Rowing Club). The navigation channel will be on the Middlesex half of the river.

All club members please note the above event and the obstructions that will be in the river — Scullers and coxless rowing boats should take special care!

Community Regatta '22

Following the success of the 2021 regatta, I believe planning has started for the 2022 Community Regatta.

Weybridge Community Fayre, 12:00 to 16:00

Toni Piercy has (been) volunteered to arrange this event which will be held on Saturday, September 4th at Churchfields Recreation Ground (Springfield Road). She will need some volunteers to set up — not too much, just a gazebo and an ergo or two — and to 'man' the stand for a few hours then break down and return to the club. It's good fun meeting the public and chatting to them about the Club. It's not really a 'selling' operation; more that we are part of the Weybridge community — please contact us here.

Buckets, sponges and cloths

Could I please ask all members to wring out sponges and cloths after washing down the boats and to empty the water from the buckets (into the urinal would do). If left in water the sponges and cloths go all manky. Put the cloths somewhere neat to dry; similarly with towels.

Me on holiday

I shall be taking a break in Dorset for a couple of weeks until the beginning of September... Behave yourselves whilst I'm gone!
