Dear <<First Name>>,

Did I see the sun just now...? Yup, there it goes...

Window for kit supplies - now closed

Scott has confirmed the order for kit.

Henry...

...has made such good progress that he's now home. Huge thanks to the burns unit at Birmingham Children's hospital. He is in good spirits.

Goodbye Leif Mills, Past President

Leif's family and friends remembered him on 1st June in a simple ceremony at the Club. We were blessed with fine weather and all went well, with his family being most appreciative of the club's facilitation of the event.

Hello little swans

Hello little swans

We have a number of new families around us - please be very careful around the geese, ducks and swans who have babies to protect. Give them room - particularly the swans who can become aggressive if you get too close. Remember - it's their river too.

Grace, Lois, Jasmine and Luella at NSR21

National Schools Regatta...

Excellent racing from the girls and boys at Dorney last weekend. The Girls '2nd' coxless quad of Grace, Lois, Jasmine and Luella came 7th in the time trial and held their place to win the 'B' final. The '1st' coxless quad of Keziah, Niamh, Lydia and Eva also made the cut into the 'B' final finishing third in a race so tight that none of the crews or spectators could tell who had placed first, second or third. For the record we were third by 0.88 of a second from first place. The boys had a good powerful race but weren't able to make the cut in a very large field.

Nick & Cullen at The Scullery

...and the Scullery...

Cullen and Nick came first in the time trial at the Scullery on Monday, and held their position to win GOLD in the J16.2x event. Huge congratulations to them. At this point I'd like to thank ex-Olympian Mark Buckingham who has been working diligently with Kostas to coach this crew. Their next goal is GB trials for which arrangements are now being made.

Anne, Rachel, Jacqui and Jayne at Peterborough

...and Peterborough

Our intrepid ladies 'of a certain age' made the trip to Peterborough on Saturday and came back with pots. Well done to them. They spoke well of the event.

Junior Learn-to-Row courses

We ran two Junior Learn to Row courses last week, morning and afternoon, introducing another 17 12-14 y/os to the sport. I am hopeful that a reasonable number will seek to join us. Many thanks to all the Weybridge members, adult and junior, who helped us deliver these courses. We couldn't do it without you.

Senior LTRs

Quietly and without fuss, a number of members are helping adult ladies and gents to learn to row during the week. There is a huge demand from both adults and juniors for rowing; we could operate 24 hours a day if we had the weather and daylight!

Do keep a good look out

I know I mentioned this last week, but worth mentioning again. The river was busier last week than I've seen it for a long time, although that was half term week.  In many ways it was good to see people enjoying the river; swimming, SUP-ing, rowing boats, kayaks, pleasure boats etc but we did have a couple of near misses. We nearly managed to crack open a swimmer who sum out from the bank almost into a WJ15 coxed quad on Saturday - the cox couldn't see her small dark head in the water. During that same outing there was almost an incident with a couple of kayaks who came across the bows without looking... The moral of all this is that we have to keep a good look-out at all times.

Kay is still online on a Wednesday evening

Kay does her Pilates session on Wednesday online at bit.ly/WEY-Do-Pilates. Sometimes it works better as meet.google.com/XFM-EMRB-PXI - all welcome.

Stay safe

Continuing - Hands, Face, Space. Disinfect blades and boats. Fingers crossed that we are able to continue with the new more open regime and that the Delta strain doesn't cause delays although I fear the government is softening us up for some bad news.

I will be raising the question of mask wearing at tonight's committee meeting.
