Dear <<First Name>>,

It was nice and sunny last week; now it's turned cold again I'm reminded that there are benefits to online workouts!

For our junior members

I am sure that all of you are looking forward to getting back to school on Monday, today. I appreciate that it's been a tough couple of months and hopefully those that have taken part in our on-line activities have found them useful. Have fun next week and remember - it's not all over yet so be careful for your sake, that of your family and also, when we 'go live' your coaches, too.

For parents of junior members

Hooray! Back to school! Well done for being parent teachers; you've been fantastic. Since your children probably won't say it, I will: “Thank you”.

For all: the path to normality

I mentioned last week that I'd be trying to sort a timetable for the Club following the Dear Leader's roadmap to normality. We hope. The following is how the Senior Management Team see things panning out, subject to any rule or interpretation that might change, of course:

Monday, March 8th

Schools go back

  • Much as now. Club still closed for general rowing. Even if members use their own equipment they cannot use the club facilities.
  • We await to hear from Jubilee High School whether they will want to start sports period rowing.

Monday, March 29th

We are still operating under 'covid-secure' regulations

  • The Club house remains closed.
  • Changing rooms are limited by capacity to TWO people only. Do not congregate in them. Go in, do what, get out.
  • Singles, Doubles, Quad/Fours, Eights/Octos are allowed by British Rowing.
  • We will stick to the same bubble max capacity system as previously, maximum 8 on the pontoon, but otherwise the 'rule of six' applies.
  • The wearing of masks is required for junior members (who will hopefully all be back at school by then) and strongly requested for all other members.
  • Social distancing of 2m is required by all
  • We will check temperatures of juniors.
  • All equipment, blades etc. must be disinfected both before use and after use, i.e.
  • Regular sanitising and hand-washing is required.
  • Any club activity must be booked out at
  • Ergos may be used outside only
  • All Club ergos must be returned to the club no later than 6pm on March 29th, please. Replace them where you found them, i.e. clubhouse or men's changing room. Please ensure they are returned disinfected and cleaned - watch this video if at all unsure.
  • Jubilee High School ergos will be required by mid-April, exact date to be confirmed.
  • Training sessions for all sections will be as before lockdown. Evening training will have the benefit of light!
  • Intra club competition permitted subject to covid rules, e.g. time trials.

Good Friday is April 2nd with Easter Sunday being April 4th.

Monday, April 12th

Further slight relaxation

  • Crew boats as above.
  • Clubhouse open to individuals or households only, not group sessions. Note that British Rowing do not recognise 'training bubbles'.
  • Group ergos and activities outside.
  • ‘Rule of six’ applies when socialising, but Eights/Octos are allowed whilst rowing.
  • Masks when not exercising or rowing, temperatures and 2m social distancing applies.
  • Possibility of some competition.

Monday, May 17th

  • Indoor training allowed subject to covid-secure regulations. We take this to mean up to four ergos in the clubhouse and similarly in the boathouse.
  • Masks when not actually exercising.
  • Disinfect everything before and after use.
  • Possibility of some competition if covid-secure.

Surrey School half-term, May 31st to June 4th

Monday, June 21st

Hopefully the start of the end of restrictions, but please note it's not an 'all clear'

  • Crew boats, covid-secure indoor training, wider competitions, etc. - similar to 17th May.

Regardless of the loosening of restrictions we need to remember: 'Hands, Space, Face' at all times.

Zoom ergo sessions (not Weybridge RC but external)

Rachel draws my attention to the increasingly popular zoom ergo sessions: they are free and led principally but not exclusively by current and former internationals - just a way of erging together. You simply choose the time and workout you want to do. I think some already do it, but there are some who don’t know about it and would relish being part of something a bit bigger.

Continuing online events at Weybridge RC

Matt's Tuesday circuits at 18:30 (1hr) - this will remain online.

Kay's Wednesday Pilates at 19:30 (45 min) - Kay's popular midweek event. This will remain online even after the club reopens.

Kay's Saturday morning ergos - this weekend you get to learn from Nick; huge thanks to Kay and Nick for these sessions.

Ergos to rent

Talking of ergos, I have access to only two more Jubilee High School ergos. If you would like to rent one (until they need them back which is likely to be mid-April) contact me, pronto - the link to complete their application form is here. As mentioned above, WEY ergos need to be returned on Monday, March 29th ready for club use. My thanks to those who are using them and taking care of them. I hope they have been of use to you.

And finally

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal ideas from many is research.” —Who? It's debatable

Continuing - Hands, Face, Space.

Kind regards,
Clive Capel
