Dear <<First Name>>,

The Boat Race

Hopefully you got to see Sunday afternoon’s re-sited Boat Race 2021 on the River Great Ouse at Ely, which saw Judith Packer as umpire for the 75th Women’s Race, a past Secretary of Weybridge RC. Judith and Richard are members of WEY. We saw also the first female umpire for the 166th Men’s Race, Sarah Winckless, kept busy by the daring Cambridge cox, and Cambridge completing a clean sweep over Oxford on home waters.

Thinking caps on... thank you

Thank you to all members who have made suggestions for boat names. A huge variety for us to consider; some are even practical (one or two are probably slightly riské but good fun). No hurry yet as the boats aren't likely to be here for a while. In any case we have a great list for future acquisitions!

We're back on the river...

...and so is everyone else. Please remember to keep a good lookout for other rowers, skiffers, paddle-boarders, kayakers, swimmers, motor boats, vessels 'constrained by their ability to manoeuvre' such as canal barges, the dreaded day-boats generally constrained by the inability of the land-lubber to pilot a boat, and frisky wildlife (it's breeding season). Remember the risk area immediately downstream of the bottom cut bridge - stay close to the bank and remember not to stray into the middle of the river.

Could I ask all members to curb their enthusiasm to shout and holler as our neighbours are getting irked by the noise. Thank you.

Continuing online events at Weybridge RC

Matt's Tuesday circuits at 18:30 (1 hr). This remains online - click the underlined link to join.

Kay's Wednesday Pilates at 19:30 (45 min). Kay's popular midweek event. This remains online - click the underlined link to join.

It was a 'Good Friday'

Many thanks to Kay's Nick for coaching some of our senior members last Friday; I know this was much appreciated. Thanks also to Rachel for organising.

what3words

With the what3words app installed on your phone, you can bookmark various places so Emergency Services can find you quickly, especially useful in more remote locations. Weybridge Rowing Club's address is locate.crew.nearly - you can download the app here.

And finally

From the Parish magazine:

“At the evening service tonight the topic of our sermon is ‘What is Hell?’

Come early and listen to our choir practice.”

Remember

The Club's indoor facilities are closed except for the toilets. Come changed for rowing. Bring spare clothes (no one rows without spare clothes).

And continuing for the time being - Hands, Face, Space.

Kind regards,

Clive
