Dear <<First Name>>,

Countdown to rowing: One day!

Thinking caps on, please

At some time in the next couple of months we should be taking delivery of two spanking new, gleaming white Kanghua quad-type boats. Hopefully they're not stuck on the Ever Given in the Suez Canal.

These will need names. So I was thinking, perhaps I could ask members to put forward names for them (I've always been good at delegating). I'd like something in the 'WEY' style, and not too long. ('Floaty Boaty Woaty McBoatface' is too long and would fail on the 'WEY' factor). Note that in theory we could re-use Breakawey, but let's see what inspired suggestions we get from members.

I've created a Google Sheet which lists all the current boat names. Just add your name and your suggested boat name to the list at

As an incentive there will be a prize (don't get your hopes up, it'll probably be a slightly out of date can of Pepsi or beer from the sadly little used bar) and I will announce the 'winner' in a future edition of ‘By The WEY’. And please note that the Captain's decision is final and that bribery will not be tolerated... but I am very fond of Toblerone.

Did you think nothing happened at the Club during a lockdown?

Huge thanks to all the Weybridge members who have been down to the Club to do 'stuff' during closure.

I hesitate to mention names because I'm sure I'll leave someone out but those I do know have been down are Rachel, Graham, Pete, Carl, Eric, Tom, Ashley, Paul, Greg, Paul, Nick, Anne and also Claudine who has been diligently working away on her computer in the background, unsung but not forgotten. And of course the coaches of all groups who have been keeping people going and other colleagues like Judy and the Committee.

Didn't there used to be a tree there? (Part 2)

I mentioned last week that the remains of the tree is available if you can get it to the car park. Having been down today to fire up the launch engines I can advise that some of the chunks of tree are, indeed 'chunky' and look very solid. If you can move them to the car park - you deserve them!

Continuing online events at Weybridge RC

Matt's Tuesday circuits at 18:30 (1hr) - this will remain online.

Kay's Wednesday Pilates at 19:30 (45 min) - Kay's popular midweek event. This will remain online even after the Club reopens.

Simply click the underlined text above for the session you wish to join.

Kay’s Saturday morning ergos have now finished as we are back, 'live'. The Club is most grateful to Kay for hosting and to Nick for coaching these sessions which I know have been of help to members.

It will be a 'Good Friday'

The aforementioned Nick is hosting a couple of adult sessions at the club on Good Friday. Rachel has this in hand and planned; thanks to her for this and him for that.

Ergo returns

I hope that anyone who had an ergo on hire from Jubilee High School has returned it by now. A reminder that club ergos are needed back by tomorrow, 29th March, please. Ensure they are cleaned and disinfected. I hope they have been of use to members. My thanks to JHS for assisting me in this project.

And finally

From the Parish magazine: "Ladies, don't forget Sunday's Jumble Sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your Husbands."

Continuing for the time being: Hands, Face, Space.

Kind regards,
Clive Capel
