Dear <<First Name>>,

The Sun's out and we're on the water! Still need warm clothes ...

Not the Walton & Weybridge Regatta?

With the news that the Walton & Weybridge Regatta will not be held this year due to complications arising from the need for covid security (and similarly the Weybridge Ladies Regatta) it seemed we would lose one of our favourite events. WWR is a 'grand old regatta' with marquees and catering and vendors and posh ceremonial. The cost and complexity of running the event in its present form would not have been justified by the entries enabled so very sadly the committee has had to call 'time' on it. But hopefully it will be back in 2022.

However Walton RC and Weybridge RC are working together on plans for a simpler regatta on the same Saturday, 22nd May 2021. Planning is in very early stages (but ramping up). The event will most likely be held in the Cut (as is normally the Weybridge Ladies Regatta) and there will not be catering, marquees and the other stuff that makes WWR so special. But there will be racing which is what we're after!

As entries will be severely curtailed compared to WWR's, very few clubs and schools will be invited; expect it to be those on our stretch plus a few with whom we have connections. More detail, later.

As Captain I'm leaving the detailed planning to those that know what they're talking about BUT I will be after volunteers! We need lots of people to help umpire, marshal, set up, break down and generally keep things running. There will be jobs for all including juniors (perhaps working with adults who are experienced marshals so we can use the opportunity to pass on knowledge). Certainly if anyone is hoping to race they will be expected to volunteer (and if they don't volunteer they will be 'volunteered'!).

So please keep the date - Saturday 22nd May 2021 - in your diaries and when we have a firmer idea of timings I'll be in touch. Thank you.

Some new "lawn"

Members will have noticed some more greenery by the boathouse.

This is courtesy of Greg Wakelin of Lazy Lawn (01932 640401) who, through Paul Hall, has given us off-cuts of their artificial turf product. It certainly helps to keep the dust and dirt down and makes the place look better.

Paul says that Greg is happy to donate more off-cuts as he gets them. Our thanks to Greg.

The barge is back - with a vengeance!

If you've been to the club recently you can't help but notice that the Mackleys/EA barge has arrived to dig out the banking by the club. It's bigger than last time it was here and even more intrusive. All members are going to have to be very careful particularly when arriving back after an outing. You will need to make a very tight turn out. But if you like 'boys' toys' - it's great!

Boat bag for sale

I am aware of an almost new boat bag available immediately, suitable for a Swift Elite single - asking price £450. Contact me if interested: clive@wrcjnr.com

And finally…

From the parish magazine: "Joe and Jessie were married last Saturday in the Church. So ends a friendship that began in their schooldays.

Stay safe

Continuing - Hands, Face, Space. Disinfect blades and boats.
