Dear <<First Name>>,

This Sunday, September 5th: Boat naming and 200 Club

Thanks to Greg for arranging this particularly when, as Chairman of the Doggetts Coat and Badge event in the City, he is so busy. The new Kanghua Leif is being officially named by Leif's daughter Susannah at 12:00 to which all members are invited.

Following this, those who are members of the 200 Club will be able to partake of Greg's usual excellent spread and hospitality. As the response for Sunday's event has been exceptional there will be two bars; one in the clubroom and one on the WEF lawn, courtesy of Weyfarers, to enable us to spread out to be covid-safe (see below).

Boat and club maintenance day — with benefits

Saturday 11th September from 11:00 we're going to have a concerted effort to deep clean boats and launches, pick up leaves and generally assist Eric in tidying the environment, clearing the boathouse and doing those small jobs that never get done because we're always too busy about to go out, or have just come back from, rowing.

All members, including juniors in all groups, please do get involved. You will learn 'stuff' about boats and meet members you don't normally see.

As a reward we will have a BBQ and some beers early afternoon — thanks to Scott for arranging this.

Row-Paddle-Run Elmbridge, Sunday October 10th

Save the date in your diaries!

In support of The Grace Dear Trust, we have jointly organised this to raise funds to help young people who are struggling with mental health. The event will start at 08:30 at Elmbridge Canoe Club. Anyone who wishes to enter can row, paddle, run or walk to the finish at Molesey Boat Club.

We will have to work this around a skiff regatta being held the same day.

Remember: "It's OK not to be OK”.

Weybridge Silver Sculls

Another 'save the date’: October 16th.

We will need not only entries from Weybridge members but also help on the day. The usual convention is that if you wish to compete in the event, you help out at the event.

Decent Rowing

If you need some reminders about technique as you come back to rowing, don't forget the club's subscription to Decent Rowing — to sign in use username: and password: ‘mindtheweir2020’.

Whilst official restrictions are over we believe common sense should be applied. It's still around as several of the juniors who went to Reading Festival found to their discomfort — so please remember:

  • Social distancing is still a thing — 2m is not that far away from your bestie.
  • Masks will not kill you and every extra bit of protection helps
  • Bumping elbows is still OK

Anne is checking the British Rowing guidelines in terms of use of the clubroom and I'll update you all in a future rip-roaring edition of By The WEY

Let's continue to be sensible about this.
