Girl Boss of the Month: Jan Osserman

Congrats to Jan Osserman for being selected as April's Girl Boss of the Month. She is a faithful attender of events, driving up to an hour to come to some. She is actively recruiting her acquaintances to join us and carpooling to get them to events. Jan is a top commentor on both Rochester and Finger Lakes Chapter Facebook pages. She has gone above and beyond to help me coordinate with restaurants for events. She has great business ethics and I am proud that she has become a good friend. Please join us in congratulating Jan!!!

Planting Seeds to grow your client base and business

Just talking to a new prospect does not automatically convert them into a client and it certainly does not convert them to a long standing, returning, and repeat customer! It takes work, just like a farmer works her fields.   

The term “build a relationship” is so 2017, but it is exactly what we need to continually do. 

My number one recommendation is for you to get out from behind your social media and attend as many Girl Boss Networking events and meet people in person.   You need to be face to face with a firm handshake and a good elevator pitch to capture the attention of a new future referral.

Once you have met that new prospect, you need to do a few simple steps to ensure that the relationship grows into an authentic and genuine kinship.  Just like a garden, it takes some cultivating, consistency, and a little knowledge to build that trustworthy alliance that will drive your business all the way to the bank.    

First, make sure that person has a general interest in what you offer. Be clear on recognizing this potential.  Beware to not flood someone with your info who has absolutely no interest in what you provide. However, a gentle beginner “nice meeting you” email or phone call may provide you with a solid referral even if the original contact does not purchase from you. 

With that being said, don’t give up!  Determine your ideal client and when she presents herself follow these “gardening rules”:  

1.  Sow the Seeds: Create a good introduction, collect an email address, give a welcoming hello or place a simple call sharing that you enjoyed meeting her
2.  Grow the Plant: Provide the contact with information and good content such as an engaging video, non-pushy social media, invitation to an event
3.  Nurture your young plant with consistency: Build the trust your new client needs to buy from you, prepare yourself to help solve their problem
4.  Care for your full-grown plant with great customer service: Follow up, follow up, follow up
5.  Be Thankful for the fruits of your Relationship: Show gratitude to the client by sending a thank you, providing a bonus or a small gift inviting a return purchase, ask for a referral

We are all looking for that good quality client who wants what you offer!!   It takes hard work and discipline to build your database, but once you have the fruits of your labor in your grasp, take care of it and it will show up season after season with a beautiful bloom!

I love how this journey has given me time to reflect and consider how I am as a consumer and translate that into how I want to run my business. 

I want to make friends, build trusting relationships, and foster valuable connections with other people.
I am always learning something new. Social media these days is always changing and always challenging us to use it in a way that opens the doors to connect and also build a business. When I think of planting the seeds, I think of leaving trails of goodness and offer my social media friends an experience. For example, I give them a glimpse of me. I want them to see I am relatable, I am real, I am not perfect, I am giving and approachable, and fun and all that goodness. Let people see the real me, then when I have a product that I think they would love, I can talk about it, and they will trust me and appreciate that I share it because I believe in it.

We all know about the 80/20 rule, right? Be YOU and give them a glimpse, plant the seed if you will, educate them, entertain them, and engage them. Plant the seed and you will see it grow and blossom. And then, as you work to nurture it, aka those relationships, online and in person, you will see it grow!!!!

I challenge you to share what you love, your passion, your brand, your why, your business, and how it will bring a solution. It is a cyclical process, one you have to plant, maybe using social media, but you will have to nurture it, likely in person if you can. But keep planting the seeds and never give up!!!! You got this!!!!

Sally Nowell, Associate Spotlight

Hello! I’m super excited to be here! A huge shout out to Pam Daily and Carla Valentino and everyone for making me feel so welcome. I am loving being a part of GBN and I think it’s wonderful seeing women connect and support each other.

The US has been my home for over 20 years but I am English and no matter how long I live here I will always refer to the trunk of a car as the boot!

I have been married for too many years to count, with two awesome kiddos, Oliver 15 and Penny 12. Being their mum is the greatest blessing. I truly cherish and enjoy spending time with them. Time flies, enjoy it all!

Our family includes Piper my extremely loyal shadow, somewhat neurotic, a few issues (who doesn’t?) Border Collie X, she loves, needs, and smiles for her oils! And Porsche is our orange tabby who absolutely lives her life by her own rules!

Honoring my spiritual side is important, always learning and a work in progress. Crystals, Reiki, moon, stars, and the ocean. Nature’s beauty and power is humbling, inspiring, and helps puts things into perspective. I embrace keeping it real. Honest and pure, the oils speak for themselves. Mindset and determination are the key to everything.

Five years ago this June our whole world was turned around. It showed me that there is always another way to do life. I am grateful for the path I am on because of it. I shattered my L2 vertebrae being thrown from a mustang I was training. I visualized, I believed in my mind that I was going to walk again and I did. Everyday I pushed myself to walk - I wanted my life back. 

Believe, feel it in your heart and soul and you will achieve it.

I did not know Young Living came with an income earning opportunity! I just wanted oils that worked. Young Living were the only ones that did. This year, 2019, Young Living is celebrating its 25th Birthday! I cannot begin to fathom or count how many lives are blessed and changed for the better because of Young Living.
