Music at “The Frog” will be held on July 16, Melody Lowery and Friends; July 23, Sweet and Sourwood Honey, Dan Watkins, Shelly Arvidson and Friends; July 30, Shelly Arvidson. JAM is WNC makers and music festival every Saturday 1 - 5 with free entry on Main street in historic downtown Sylva. Connect with local creators selling handmade goods, demonstrating their artistic process and teaching with workshops, all while enjoying live music.

Bascom Center for the Visual Arts July Free Exhibitions on Friday, July 15, 3 p.m., Collector Talk with Kirk Moore will discuss sense of place, one person’s travels through the southern imaginary landscape.  Opening on July 16, at the Joel Gallery,  “Like No Other Place,” through Dec. 31. Divas On Tap Anniversary Show Join our host, Alexis Black, on July 16th to celebrate 1 year of shows at Innovation Station in Dillsboro, NC! We've had so much fun over the past year and can't wait to kick off another year! These shows can fill up very quickly, so we suggest arriving early for seating! $10 cover and all ages are welcome! This is an outdoor show underneath our railroad facing patio.

Nantahala Hiking Club will hike to Kimsey Creek in the Standing Indian Recreational Area on Friday, July 15. Starting at the Backcountry Parking go over and around the campground. They will cross two foot logs. For more information and reservations, call leader Katharine Brown (828)421-4178.
 

Nantahala Hiking Club will hike to  Devil’s Courthouse on the Blue Ridge Parkway, on Saturday, July 16. They will take the Mountains to Sea Trail at State Road 215. Hiking through spruce and fir forests. We will have spectacular views from the Courthouse. For more information and reservations, call Gail Lehman at  (828)524-5298.

Nantahala Hiking Club will hike to High Falls at Lake Glenville on Sunday, July 17. They will hike down the shady trail to the bottom of High Falls and swim in several pools. Hikers must be sure footed to scramble over rocks into the gorge. You may swim at the lake too. For more information and reservations, call Chris Federico (772)233-7277.

 


Check out Junk and Disorderly at the Franklin Flea Market on Highlands Rd in booths 67&68. They sell antiques and vintage items. They are open Friday and Saturday from 9 to 2

The Rickman Store, in the heart of the Cowee-West Mill Historic District, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Swain County Caring Corner Free Clinic is open Thursday’s 4-9 p.m. at Restoration House (Bryson City United Methodist Church). Office hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9 a.m.-noon. Call 828.341.1998 to see if you qualify to receive free medical care from volunteer providers. 


Volunteer drivers are needed at Macon County Senior Services. Mileage will be reimbursed. For more information, call (828) 349-0211.

Macon County CareNet is in need of volunteers. Positions open are in the food pantry, soup kitchen, and file room. If interested stop by for an application at 130 Bidwell St., or call (828)369-2642.

Appalachian Animal Rescue Center is looking for volunteers to help at the thrift store. Call for information about the store (828)369-3046 or the shelter (828)524-4588 if you are interested in volunteering.

Gem & Mineral Museum, located in the Old Jail on Phillips Street in downtown Franklin is now open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m., featuring gems and artifacts from North Carolina as well as all over the world.

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street's new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Employment assistance is offered by NC Works Career Center from 1:30-4 p.m. on the first Friday of every month at Marianna Black Library in Bryson City. 488.3030 or

Food Pantries :

Manna Food Bank is now at Bethel United Methodist Church. To reserve a food box, call (828) 634-1116 and leave a message with the following information: your first name and last initial; phone number to confirm pick-up time; number of people in your family; if there are allergies in the family; and any specialty items you might need, like diapers, etc. Pick up is at Bethel UMC, 81 Bethel Church Road, off Highlands Road.

Franklin Covenant Church- Host a Free Lunch And Pantry Once a Month on the fourth
Saturday of the month. It runs from 11:00 am until we either run out or there are no more people coming. It is a drive-through and to-go service. In addition to a free hot lunch, we give out dry goods and pantry supplies, like cleaning supplies, etc.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes, and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Friday for drive-up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

First Alliance Church will be holding Sunday Service on July 17,  10:30 a.m., Sunday School for all ages will be held at 9:3 a.m. Dick Brown will be speaking on Ephesians 4:25-32. Kathy Hill & Sharon Drake will be performing special music. The church is located at 31 Promise Lane (off Womack, next door to Trimont Christian Academy).

Spiritual Light Center on Sunday, July 17, 11 a.m., Pope McElvy and Robert Akers will perform a musical service featuring original music. The theme of this special musical event is “Love Is The Only Answer”, Monday, 6 p.m. all levels yoga class, No cost to attend. Thursday a movie is shown at 3 p.m. and then out to eat afterward. All Saints Episcopal Church, Franklin  Services are held Rite I, 8 a.m. without music and Rite II,  10:15 a.m. with music, every Sunday. First and third Sundays at St. Agnes Chapel, 66 Church St. and second and fourth Sundays at St. Cyprian’s Chapel, 216 Roller Mill Rd.
