Vacation Bible School:

Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church Will Host Big Fish Bay Hooked On Gods Mercy Vacation Bible School June 5th-June 8th 6pm-8pm 

Newman Chapel Baptist Church in Otto Vacation Bible School “Food Truck Party” will be held on June 5 through 8, 5 to 8:30 p.m., ages 4 thru teens.  A light meal will be served Sunday  through Tuesday from 5 to  6 p.m. Commencement will be held  Wednesday at 6:30 with a cookout directly following for children, family and friends.  Newman’s Food Truck Party teaches “Everything comes from God,” with crafts, games, music, food, and fellowship.

Burningtown Baptist Church Vacation Bible School “Discovery on Adventure Island” for kids of all ages will be held on  June 6 to 10, 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly. Fun, games, Bible lessons, food (a light meal will be served every evening), and more. A class for adults is also offered. Sylva Juneteenth 5k, Bike Ride And Fun Walk- June 11th 9am -This Juneteenth week help us celebrate the 154rd anniversary of the day enslaved black people in Galveston, Texas, became Americans under the law and has become an observance of the end of slavery in the US. Freedom is a journey we take together as a country, and this race is a reminder of our commitment together. Organized by the Jackson County NAACP, this race in Mark Watson Park is a fundraiser for students scholarships. This race has a 1 mile fun walk and a virtual bike race that you can do too! You can register on the day of the race on site starting at 8 am.

Sylva Will Host Its 2nd Annual Pride Picnic June 14th 5:20-8pm At Bridge Park 
All are welcome! Please bring your own meal and beverage to the gathering to get to know new friends and allies! 
Bring lawn chairs, blankets to sit on, lawn games, and anything that enhances an evening of community.

Chick-Fil-A Franklin Will Host A
Stuffed Animal Sleepover Drop Off Friday June 17th 5pm-7pm Pick Up. Saturday June 18th 8am- 10am 
The cow is hosting a sleepover for your kid’s fuzziest friends! On June 17th, kids are invited to have dinner and make a craft with the cow. Once dinner and a craft is over, you'll go home but your stuffed animal friends will stay with the cow! The stuffed animals will document their adventures for their friends to read about when they are picked up the next morning.

Appalachian Animal Rescue Center Dog and Cat Adoption Event will be held on Saturday, June 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Burke’s Outlet, 225 Franklin Plaza. All animals are vaccinated, Spayed/neutered, microchipped and ready to go to a loving home. Available dogs and cats can be seen on maconcounty.humanesociety. 


Starting this weekend, the Rickman Store, in the heart of the Cowee-West Mill Historic District, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Swain County Caring Corner Free Clinic is open Thursday’s 4-9 p.m. at Restoration House (Bryson City United Methodist Church). Office hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9 a.m.-noon. Call 828.341.1998 to see if you qualify to receive free medical care from volunteer providers.

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street's new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Food Pantries :

Manna Food Bank is now at Bethel United Methodist Church. To reserve a food box, call (828) 634-1116 and leave a message with the following information: your first name and last initial; phone number to confirm pick-up time; number of people in your family; if there are allergies in the family; and any specialty items you might need, like diapers, etc. Pick up is at Bethel UMC, 81 Bethel Church Road, off Highlands Road.

Franklin Covenant Church- Host a Free Lunch And Pantry Once a Month on the fourth
Saturday of the month. It runs from 11:00 am until we either run out or there are no more people coming. It is a drive-through and to-go service. In addition to a free hot lunch, we give out dry goods and pantry supplies, like cleaning supplies, etc.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes, and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Friday for drive-up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Spiritual Light Center on Sunday, June 5 , 11 AM, Ashley Russell will speak on “The Spirituality of Yoga”,  Monday, June 6, 6 p.m. all levels yoga class, No cost to attend.   Wednesday a movie is shown at 3 p.m. and then out to eat afterward. Celebrate Recovery at Discover Church every Monday night at 6 p.m. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain, or addiction of any kind. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our life. Free childcare up to five years old for attending parents.
