LITERACY WEEK
Literacy Week was celebrated in CBS Kilkenny with a full itinerary of debates, film appreciation, guest speakers, competitions and fun. Councillor Paddy McKee adjudicated a great debate with visiting school, Presentation Kilkenny, while Khan Kiely visited and provided sponsorship and a free book for each First Year student. Many thanks to our hardworking committee for a great week.
TY STUDENTS VISIT BARRACKS
Our TY students enjoyed an immensely interesting tour of James Stephens Barracks as guests of the Defence Forces. They were treated to everything from a history of the barracks to a demonstration of the most modern training methods currently in use. Here they are pictured with Cpl Fionn, the unit mascot.
JERSEY DAY FOR GOAL
As we have come to expect, the students of CBS Kilkenny were extremely generous in their support of our recent Jersey Day in aid of Goal's work worldwide to overcome famine and poverty. Under the guidance of Mr Downey, €1135 was collected and a fun day was enjoyed by all. Here are our First Year students enjoying the colour!
HURLING
Good news on the hurling front. Our Junior Hurling team have qualified for the Leinster Final. Also, almost fifty of our young First Year students enjoyed a great day out at the blitz at O'Loughlin Gaels grounds. The future of hurling at CBS Kilkenny is in good hands!
STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Elections took place in early October, and we convey to the new Student Council every good wish in their year ahead. The incoming Council received training and advice from ERST representatives, Eddie Bourke and Leo Hogan. It is a great opportunity for the student leaders, and we hope they enjoy their endeavours under the guidance of Mr Kennedy.
OPENING MASS
The whole school community came together in St Mary's Cathedral on Oct 2nd for a wonderful celebration to mark the opening of the new academic year. We look forward to the year ahead and we hope it is a healthy, happy, fulfilling and fruitful year for CBS Kilkenny.

THEN AND NOW!
We have digitised the photographs which line the walls of CBS Kilkenny and we want to share them with you, to evoke memories of your time in CBS Kilkenny.
Here, we look back on our hurling success in the 1970s.

We also fondly recall the 1980s with champion visits to the school, and we meet up again with members of the CBS senior Hurling team of 1936!
These are our hurling and basketball stars from the 1990s .... the 1990 and 1995-96 basketball teams. If you have some images from when you were in CBS Kilkenny, we would love if you would share them with us too.
Here, we give you a snapshot of the 1996 and 1999 Rice Cup Panels. Great memories there!
Sincere thanks to professional photographer and former student Terry Campion for his excellent enhancement work on the photographs.
