BR MICHEÁL Ó'DONNCHÚ
It is with deep regret that we have learned of the passing of Br Mick, who served as Principal at CBS Kilkenny from 1984 until 1990.
Br O'Donnchú was a very caring man who devoted much of his life to helping the underprivileged in society. Before he went to Zambia in 2001 to work with the Christian Brothers community there, he had spent many of his years in Ireland in support of their great work in Africa.
A native of Tipperary, Br Mick was the essential link person in Zambia for CBS Kilkenny and many other ERST schools who sent teams of students and teachers there between 2001 and 2016. As a result of our long relationship with Br Mick, here in CBS Kilkenny we were in a position to arrange two very successful trips to Zambia to work with Br Mick and his community.
Br Mick led a very fulfilled life and lived his gospel values every day through his care of others.

UCD SCHOLARSHIPS
Huge congratulations to five of our LC2018 Class, Bobby, Stuart, Mark, James and Sean, who received Entrance Scholarship Awards from UCD. These are awarded on the basis of outstanding Leaving Certificate results. Well done. We are very proud of you.
FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE
In October the staff of CBS Kilkenny congratulated our hardworking and much loved secretary, Mairéad Phelan, on completing forty years of service at the school. Mairéad started as a young girl back in 1978 and has helped and supported many thousands of students and their parents during this time. Congratulations Mairéad!
TY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Every Thursday, CBS Kilkenny Transition Year students help our older citizens to get the most out of their smartphones, tablets and other technologies. Getting Started is a super initiative organised by Age Action Ireland and is very popular with both the students involved and our visitors.
SCIENCE WEEK
In November, we celebrated Science Week with a very busy lineup of events: quizzes, 3D model competitions, poster competitions, guest speakers and hatching chicks! Many thanks to all of our Science teachers for organising a superb week.
CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK
Congratulations to 3 Colmcille who adopted a penguin with WWF as part of Climate Action Week, highlighting the current plight of animals affected by global warming. TY students collected Climate Action Pledges from our students throughout the week, whereby students identified practical ways in which they can support the environment. Well done to the Cumann ERST and our Green Schools Committee for their excellent organisation.
HANDBALL ALL-IRELAND
Well done to Billy Drennan on getting to the All Ireland Colleges 60x30 U17 Handball Singles Final played in Sligo recently. Billy had to settle for silver on this occasion, but playing a year young, he is still eligible for this grade again next year. GAA Handball President, Joe Masterson presented Billy with his All Ireland runner-up medal. Congrats Billy, great achievement!
PHYSICS AND MATHS SCHOLARSHIP
Warmest congratulations to James Bourke (LC2018) on being awarded an Entrance Scholarship to study Theoretical Physics and Mathematics at Maynooth University, @MaynoothUni. Great achievement, James! Very best wishes. ‬

THEN AND NOW!
We have digitised the photographs which line the walls of CBS Kilkenny and we want to share them with you, to evoke memories of your time in CBS Kilkenny.

It is hurling all the way here, with stars from 2014 and match reports from the 1990s!

It is class groups from 1970, 2011 and 2012 here! How time flies! See anyone you know? Tag and re-connect with old school friends.

If you have some images from when you were in CBS Kilkenny, we would love if you would share them with us too.

Sincere thanks to professional photographer and former student Terry Campion for his excellent enhancement work on the photographs.
