U11 HURLING BLITZ
On Saturday April 21 2018, the U11 CBS Kilkenny Hurling blitz took place at Dicksboro GAA grounds. More than three hundred young hurlers battled it out across the day. Six former CBS Kilkenny students who are now on the Kilkenny senior panel were on hand to congratulate the young participants. Paddy Deegan, Huw lawlor, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Luke Scanlon, Ollie Walsh and Bill Sheehan presented gift packs to each of the hurlers. The gift pack contained a commemorative trophy which was designed and manufactured by our TY Technology students. Masita sponsored jerseys for eight outstanding players on the day. Sincere thanks to our many sponsors and supporters, particularly: Dicksboro GAA Club, Glanbia, Masita, Kilkenny County Board, and Briain Ryan. Thanks to all of our visiting players, their mentors and their families for making the CBS Kilkenny blitz such a great occasion.

AG SCIENCE STUDENTS CREATE A GARDEN:
Under the guidance of their teacher Mr Meredith, Fifth Year students of Agricultural Science in CBS Kilkenny have undertaken a project to develop a school garden from an overgrown area between the school grounds and St Mary's Cathedral. The project will take several months because the ground has first to be cleared, then prepared and sown. It is intended to install several raised beds with gravel surrounds and will turn an unused area into a very attractive space. Many thanks to our near neighbour Bishop Farrell for his permission and support of this project.

GAISCE AWARD:
Well done to all of our Gaisce Award participants who walked the Waterford greenway last week as part of their Gaisce challenge. The weather did not oblige and the Sunny South East was more akin to the Wild Atlantic Way! Dinner was very welcome after the long walk! Well done all and sincere thanks to Ms Ryan.

On Friday 27th April 2018, CBS Kilkenny had the privilege of welcoming Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Ireland Professor of Poetry and an esteemed figure in Irish literature, to the school to address our senior students. We were honoured to meet Eiléan face to face and to hear her speak so engagingly of her poetry and her writing. As a poet who is on the prescribed list for Leaving Certificate English, she delivered a very insightful lecture to all Sixth Year students, dealing with students' questions and exam based topics associated with her work.
