SENIOR MATHS SUCCESS
Congratulations to our Senior Maths Team who won the regional round of Team Maths Quiz on January 25 2019. CBS Kilkenny teams have a very good record in this competition and went in as reigning champions. This year's team comprised: Oisin Murphy, Cathal Maguire, Jan Jasieczko and Ben Prizeman. Best wishes to them in the national final which will be held in Maynooth University on Saturday March 2.
CONCERN DEBATES
Well done to our Senior Debate team. On January 17 2019, they successfully carried the motion ‘The UN has become irrelevant’.
Our team, Captain Conor McCarthy, Ultan Conroy, Oisin Morrissey and Andrew Stone put on a fine performance before a packed house. This victory puts CBS Kilkenny at the very top of 150 schools in the national table, achieving maximum league points.
From here they will go to the knockout stages in Spring 2019.
Sincere thanks to Mr O'Brien and Ms Maher for their trojan work.
TY DRAMA
Our TY Drama group entered the national TY Drama Festival in Mullingar on January 29. They earned very good adjudication with their performance of Phonies, written by our own Mr O'Riordan. We wish them well with their final result which will be announced next week. Huge thanks to Ms Meaney.
MOCK EXAMINATIONS
All exam students in 6th Year and 3rd Year will start their mock examinations on February 5 and 7 2019 respectively. We wish them every success, and we know that their hard work will be rewarded.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
In January we celebrated our ethos and identity as an Edmund Rice school during CSW2019. As part of our week, our chaplain Fr Jim celebrated the reopening of our beautiful Prayer Room - a quiet contemplative space for students and staff. A wonderful job of repair and restoration was carried out by our facilities staff, Ken and James, and interior designer, Fiona Fennelly.
DANCING WITH THE STARS
We were delighted to welcome former student John Edward Nolan and his dance partner Mairéad Ronan to CBS Kilkenny on January 29. John will be supporting us in our new school development fundraising campaign, and we are delighted to be able to repay his loyalty by supporting him in the highly competitive DWTS competition on RTE.
John and Mairéad (#TeamMoJo)  are a great partnership, and they warmly engaged with students here regarding their training schedules, career choices and lifestyle.
KILKENNY TRAD FEST
As part of the ongoing fundraising for our new school, the marvellously talented CBS Kilkenny Trad Band will join forces with nationally acclaimed Trad Trio KGB on the evening of March 16 2019. In the beautiful setting of St Canice's Cathedral, during a busy Kilkenny Trad festival, there will be a wonderful evening of traditional Irish music and song.

Tickets are €30 from the school office (056) 7721402. Your generous support is, as always, deeply appreciated.
WELLBEING WEEK
During January the Student Council teamed up with the Wellbeing and Careers departments to organise a busy and engaging itinerary for Wellbeing Week. Students were invited to workshops and talks on many aspects of resilience, substance abuse and emotional and physical wellbeing. A number of very creative competitions rounded up the week.

REUNION of CLASS OF 1974
We are really looking forward to the upcoming 45-year reunion of the Leaving Certificate Class of 1974 which will take place in May. If you are part of that class and have not yet heard from the organisers, or if you or someone you know is interested in organising a reunion for your own year group, please contact Derarca at d.maguire@cbskilkenny.ie.
And finally........INSTAGRAM
To add to our growing online presence, we opened an Instagram account this week! Instragram lets the photos do the talking and keeps text to a minimum. So if you like the Instagram platform and would like to follow what happens in CBS Kilkenny, you can find us by searching for CBS KILKENNY in the app.

If you are a Twitter, Facebook and/or LinkedIn fan, those accounts will continue as before and will be unaffected.
