LAUNCHING TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL  
 Chef Sarah Bennetto O’Brien is ready to dramatically expand the scope of her popular eat-in/take-out culinary operation The Handpie Company. After launching in Borden-Carleton, P.E.I., in 2017, she’s relocated to Albany with 2400 square feet of retail-and-production space, five times larger than her previous site.  Her venture into the frozen wholesale market – supported by her new location -- was largely envisioned through the Food Island Partnership’s Food Xcel initiative. The Atlantic Food & Beverage held their first Road Show Breakfast on May 16th, 2018 at the PEI Preserve Co. Bryan Inglis, CEO of Food Island Partnership, joined the conversation to discuss food trends, food industry challenges, and the future for food in Prince Edward Island. 
Canadian food and beverage manufacturers are eligible for a cost-share funding program supported by the Walmart Foundation. In total, 50 facilities will receive up to 85% funding support for a $10,000 project to conduct a facility assessment that will identify 3 opportunities to prevent and reduce food waste within operations.  The program will also conduct unique research into Canadian attitudes towards food waste to inform a supply chain educational campaign. To learn more about the program, register for a live webinar (June 13 - English, June 14 - French), visit the program website or contact Marcy Lillard at mlillard@provisioncoalition.com.

A $25,000 grant from the provincial government’s Ignition Fund in 2016 helped Suzanne Keough expand her one-year-old Rawsome Juice Company at just the right time. Applications are now being accepted (www.innovationpei.com/ignition) for 2018 grants, which are awarded to new and innovative business ideas and the entrepreneurs that drive them. Food Island Partnership is seeking an existing online sales platform provider that can coordinate all aspects of the sales cycle to sell PEI food to customers in domestic and export markets.The successful proponent will be promoted in Fall Flavours promotions, on the Canada’s Food Island website and with other promotions when possible.
