PEI OYSTERS HELPING REBUILD THE HUDSON RIVER IN NYC
Prince Edward Island, Canada's Food Island oyster shells are a part of a great initiative in New York City - Billion Oyster Project. This is where oyster shells are collected from local restaurants, cleaned and are added back to the Hudson River. To date 100 M oysters restored, 2 M pounds of oyster shells collected, & 8,000 engaged NYC students.
 
Their vision is to have "A future in which New York Harbor is the center of a rich, diverse, and abundant estuary. The communities that surround this complex ecosystem have helped construct it, and in return benefit from it, with endless opportunities for work, education, and recreation. The harbor is a world-class public space, well used and well cared for—our Commons." We interviewed Giovanna Kupiec, their amazing communications coordinator, to learn more.
