Monthly Review: Aug, 2020

Hello <<First Name>>, thanks for your support this August! It was an exciting month in Mwanza, and we're happy to share some of our newest activities with you.

Monthly Highlight
You may remember that our Free Online Library project collects and posts educational comic books on a variety of important social topics for teachers and students to photocopy, including our own comic book for the TED Talk We Should All be Feminists, which included work from 20 artists in 10 countries.

This past month, our Outreach Coordinator Oliver Kimathi was asked by the Access English program to facilitate a series of virtual workshops on the use of comics for education on language and social issues in after-school clubs.

Afterwards, Oliver and our Programs Coordinator Petro Okoth met with members of the Tanzania English Language Teachers Association (TELTA) and other Mwanza teachers. They distributed copies of some of our favorite educational comics, on topics such as gender equality, sexual health and hygiene, bullying at schools, and even outer space, and discussed their uses.

Events like these boost the impact of our work while using materials already developed in the past, showing how even small one-time donations to our projects can continue to impact the community long after the initial work is done. We look forward to developing more educational comics soon, with an emphasis on East African writers and artists. Be on the lookout, and until then,
