Monthly Update: April, 2020

Hi <<First Name>>, thanks for being a member of our Kesho Fund community! Below are some highlights of what your support accomplised this month.

Monthly Highlight: The Ibungilo Boys Bathroom is Complete!
Now more than ever, personal hygiene for or youths is crucial. Although our schools are presently closed do to virus concerns, the completion of the new Boys Bathroom Project at Ibungilo Secondary School is a landmark achievement. Together with the Girls Bathroom that we built at Ibungilo school last year, the number of toilets for the 1,200 students here has increased from 6 to 20 (plus a large trough urinal), and the number of hand-washing sinks has increased from 0 to 4. This improvement matters!

Without a doubt, these numbers are still much too small. However, with your help, we are continuing to expand the hygienic capacity in our schools and make sure that our students are safe. Asanteni sana! (thank you very much!)
Other New Work
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we're now sewing cloth medical masks for distribution to essential workers in Mwanza!

We have sewn a test batch of 579 cloth masks for about $250 and are now in discussions with the local government about the more appropriate and expeditious way to get them to bus drivers, street vendors, traffic police, and other important workers in the downtown area.
As soon as the test batch goes out, we'll discuss any necessary improvements and then begin to sew many more.

Know any professional graphic designers? We are also looking to design some posters to promote hygienic hand washing (per CDC and WHO guidelines) to post in our school and at businesses and public buildings around Mwanza. These posters will help prevent the spread of the virus now and the spread of many other germs and diseases in the future.
