Candidates for Chair

Name:  Carmen Rivera
Precinct:  RNT 11-2581
Statement:  I was born and raised in the 11th Legislative District. After being an active member at an early age, I moved to pursue my graduate degree and establish my career. I have over 7 years of experience working for both the State of Washington and King County, and deeply understand the impact of politics on policies on all levels and in turn, our
livelihoods. Currently, I work as an adjunct professor at Seattle University. Since moving back to Renton, I have been inspired to run to be your Chair. If elected, I am determined to increase outreach and engagement with the many diverse communities which reside within the 11th Legislative District. I want to work to increase membership participation and collaboration with other local organizations. Additionally, I would review and restructure our monthly membership meetings. We can work more effectively as an organization to not only increase membership participation and engagement, but keep it by listening to our members first and prioritizing their time. It is leadership’s responsibility to be open and progressive to meet the needs of our members. I would honor the opportunity to use my skills, knowledge, and experience to serve the 11th LD as your Chair.  (200 words)

Candidates for Chair

Name:  Benton Coblentz
Precinct:  TUK 11-2752
Statement:  In 2021, we 11th LD Dems have the chance to build a better organization.  As your chair, I will have the experience and the team to make good on that opportunity.

In the 11th, I have already improved our communication,
spearheaded events, and recruited new members.  I have seen what we do well and where we need to improve.  My community activism – most recently as Board Chair of Tukwila Pantry - shows me we can and must do better.

United, we 11th LD Dems can have a powerful impact.  Our organization should give you the tools you need to make change.  We need to build camaraderie within our membership and deepen our partnerships.  We need to raise our profile and pursue priorities that our members and constituents care about.

I’ve started those projects, but I can’t complete them alone.  The team I’ve recruited can help make our aspirations reality.  With us - the 11th LD Dems United - you will have the chance to take an active role in our organization, and our organization will have an active voice in our community.

I would be honored to have your support and to continue working with you as your next chair.  (200 words)
