Welcome to another edition of Black Pine Press. This month we look at windows that can produce electricity and the benefits of converting to LED lighting.
I'm also happy to announce two new members to the Black Pine team; Akshaya Baskar and Emma de Bruin, we'll share a bit more about them next month! :-)
As always we're very passionate about healthy and sustainable built environments and would be happy to talk with you about including the following materials into your next project. Give us a call!

Solar Energy Glass
Photovoltaic glass turns sunlight into electricty with embedded solar cells between glass panels. Used in skylights and vertical walls, solar energy has never looked better.

Light up with LED

Up to 90% more efficient, with longer lifespans and better safety these are just some of the reasons why you should consider converting to LED lighting today.

Aspirational Architecture - California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco

Designed by architect Renzo Piano and completed in 2008, the Califonia Academy of Sciences in San Francisco can also lay claim to being one the largest ever LEED platinum rated buildings. The project's concept envelops existing museum buildings along with new science features. All up the structure is home to a planetarium, aquarium, a rain forest and a natural history museum, and features a self-regulating passive temperature controlled environment. Piano's energy saving design is crowned with a 2.5 acre living roof which absorbs 98% of the rain water while providing insulation and natural cooling for the building which is built around a central piazza.

Journey through the world's greenest museum in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
