This past week the Black Pine team celebrated the holidays early and stepped outside the office to take a trip up the Whanganui river.
Exploring this organic marvel was quite spectacular and awe-inspiring – and it’s all just outside our doorstep!
The Mangatiti Landing Retreat Charitable Trust lead the expedition and made it all possible – supporting them gave us some great company and allowed us to access this beauty by jet boat.

We voyaged a good 30 minutes up the river from Pipiriki and stopped to have lunch at the very secluded and rustic ‘Wicket’ – an unassuming vision of a handcrafted cabin nestled in the undergrowth.
Thereafter we sped a further 10 minutes upriver and reached Mangapurua Landing, where we took a short hike up to the Iconic ‘Bridge to Nowhere”.

You sometimes forget just how wild and undisturbed the Whanganui bushland is and just how much of it there is to explore.
It was so cathartic to be reminded of where we are, reconnect with what’s around us and take a tiki tour in our very own over-grown backyard!
