Dear Presidents and Members of BPW
Welcome to the first Newsletter of the Triennium 2021 to 2024. This message should give you an overview of the activities in the first few weeks.

President’s Handover Meeting
Cairo April 21, 2021

Almost exactly a month after BPW International had voted on a new president, the former President Dr. Amany Asfour organized an official hybrid handover meeting of the presidency in the Zamalek Palace in Cairo accompanied by an inauguration of a booklet on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of BPW International. Physically present were the Immediate Past President and some members of the Egyptian Federation, the President of the only Libya Club and Ambassador Mona Sharif. There were also in attendance friends of BPW Egypt, namely the President of the Lions in Egypt. Almost 200 members worldwide joined on the Zoom platform.  After the handover ceremony some Presidents of the founding member states of BPW International recalled the early BPW history of their country. It was a very convivial and joyful celebration.

All the participants present appreciated being able to meet in person. Unfortunately, the former and the newly elected Executive could not be in Cairo due to travel restrictions. We would like to present photos of the new Executive at least.

  • The new President’s Office needed to be established and approved by the Executive.
  • New accountant: As our former accountant resigned at the end of March 2021, a replacement needed to be found.
  • Executive Board Meetings: The President was in touch with all the members of the Executive. The first Face to Face Executive Meeting has been organized and will take place in Switzerland from September 26 to October 2, 2021. BPW International lost one of its beloved and highly esteemed Past International Presidents, Dr. Yvette Swan, President of BPW International 1989-1991. She worked as an optometrist at the Bermuda Optical Company. According to good friends, she was a champion for the disadvantaged, raised her powerful voice for social justice, especially for the empowerment and equity for women. Apart from being a Doctor in optometry, she was appointed as a Senator of the United Bermuda Party in Bermuda in 1993 and as a Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs in 1995. She was also serving as a Minister for Women’s issues. Dr. Swan addressed the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and campaigned for women’s issues in countries around the world. Later, she became an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada and a spiritual Leader of her community. BPW International presents its condolences to her husband Malcolm and the couple’s three sons Malcolm Brian, Dane and Dean.
