An Elephant Beginning

Greetings from Amsterdam! Dear you, I send you this letter as the first one of many to come. Every Wednesday, you will receive an email from me containing a new song, a reflection or insight around what I'm up to, invitations to concerts and sometimes I might ask for your opinion concerning new songs or recordings. How about this? Crazy good yeah? Of course, if for some reason you wish not to receive these letters then you can always unsubscribe at the bottom of this email.

A short video I've made for the celebration of the "save the Elephants day" the 16th of April.

"Tell me why, does it all just fall apart?"

This Friday, as a global festivity we celebrate "save the Elephants day". Why?
Well, the reasons why the Elephants are threatened to extinction are many.  It's easy to feel overwhelmed thinking about how to embark on a quest like this, to save them from extinction but there is one writer who brings forth something new.

Daniel Quinn has written several books in response to these questions and is the only one so far that has managed to convince me with his theories. What he's writing about seems like something that actually could work. My book recommendation for you is one of his books called "the story of B". An excellent piece of wisdom that will change the way you look at the world and your place in it. Buy the book from here: https://www.ishmael.org/books/the-story-of-b/

Erik Sjøholm - Fall apart

Fall apart - a song based on 5 short stories

I want to share about this song with you because the background story gives you an idea of what I'm up to right now. A few weeks ago, me and my former classmates from the Mezrab Storytelling School in Amsterdam went to perform  with our new storytelling collective the zoetropes at Pakhuis de Sweijger. A cultural place here in Amsterdam. The theme was: Lessons we've learned from mother nature. My role was to add music to the event and compose a concluding song for the end of the show that contained bits and pieces from all the stories that was told during the event. If you'd like to watch the show we did you can watch it here.

What I'm curious to hear from you guys is: after listening to the song, what is the image that you are left with? Send your answer to: erik@eriksjoholm.com

As a special treat, you may download "Fall apart" for free via this link:

Wisdom & Loyalty of the Elephant

I want to round up this first letter with some Elephant symbolism. I've been intending to start writing these letters already five years ago. It took me until now to write the first one. The path of each and one of us is full of ups and downs, long and winding, but as my theatre teacher of the Meisner technique, Tom Radcliff put it in todays class: "the only way to fail is to give up" and I truly believe that is what matters, to keep walking. That the arrival destination is the journey itself. So I write to both of us, keep walking, keep dreaming, keep tumbling forward on that unknown path ahead of you and let's see what the world presents for us. Talk to you again next Wednesday, take care until then!

Big hugs, Erik
