The fifth of the nine-fold fruit of the Holy Spirit is kindness. It comes right after patience. How appropriate! Kindness can be hardest to show if it requires patience or long-suffering. But that reflects how the Lord treats us everyday. "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV).
When God acts in “kindness” towards us, it means God is being faithful to his covenant promises, paying attention to our real needs, acting in merciful love, and generously providing everything for our blessing and benefit. Kindness is providing for the other person's benefit. It is doing something you don’t have to do, even something you don’t feel like doing (hence the predecessor of patience), yet still choosing to do it. Because of what Christ has done on the cross. It is realising the mind of Christ and power of the Holy Spirit in all situations. It is being kind in situations where you are more offended than offending. Next week we will look at goodness.
Our services this Saturday/Sabbath are listed below, both at the Great Yarmouth church building and the Lowestoft church building. The Worship Service is at 11.15am, and will follow Sabbath School which starts at 10am. Please note that the Teen and Children Sabbath Schools are at Great Yarmouth. Zoom and Facebook will also be live-streamed from the Great Yarmouth Church.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
