Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!

It seemed good on this first day of 2021 to think about the first promise made in the bible to fallen humankind. It is found in Genesis 3:13, the very first book of the Bible, right after Adam and Eve had been tricked and fallen into sin.  They both went and hid from God.  But God took the initiative (as He always does) and went looking for them. When He found them (as He always does), and also the Serpent (that is Satan, yes a literal and real fallen Angelic Being), he said to the Serpent in Genesis 3:15 (ESV) "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

The promise in the words from the Lord tells us that Satan will bruise the heel of the woman's offspring. It is clear this is foretelling Jesus first advent, and He was terribly bruised on the cross. But the promise is also made that Jesus will crush the head of Satan. That victory was assured by the empty tomb of Jesus when He was raised to life. We will ultimately see this prophecy fulfilled at the second advent of Jesus and the final judgement. How terrible will be that final bruising of the Serpent's head and His offspring.  We are in the last days.  We don't set dates for Jesus' soon return but we look forward to it with eager anticipation and expectation. Today, the Lord is looking for people who "keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ". (Rev 12:17). We started with a quote from the first book of the bible, and we end with a quote from the last book of the Bible. The message in the Bible is the same from its first page to the last.

Blessings to you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

- Pastor Mark Borrett
