Dear Friends,

The passage in the image above is taken from the Old Testament book of Hosea. The Lord says "I will betroth you" three times in Hosea 2:19-20! The text contains an allusion to the payment of the bridal gift or dowery. This would be paid by the bride's family to the husband at the time of marriage. But the Lord changes all those rules and customs. What we have in Hosea is a picture of the Lord freely paying the bridal gift or dowery, for His bride (Israel) as she is utterly bankrupt! So we are given this beautiful analogue of salvation, where the Lord freely imputes and imparts to us through our faith in Jesus, the moral character necessary for the marriage covenant relationship. The words used in Hosea echo the more well known verses that we find in Exodus 34:6-7,...“The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

This week the Government updated the guidance for the safe use of places of worship. You can read it at summary, all restrictions are lifted as of July 19th.
  • There are no longer limits on the number of people you can meet. This means there are no restrictions on group sizes for attending communal worship.
  • Legal requirements for social distancing will no longer apply and you will not need to stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with.
  • Face coverings are no longer required by law in any setting. However, the Government expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport.
  • There will no longer be limits on the number of people who can sing indoors or outdoors. This includes indoor congregational and communal singing.
There is a heavy emphasis on individual responsibility and choice. Dr Emmanuel Osei, the President of the South England Conference of Seventh-day Adventist writes "Although it is no longer mandatory to wear face coverings during services, we would counsel you to be diligent in observing and encouraging good hygiene habits like regular hand washing, ensuring good ventilation, and maintaining social distancing. Your safety, and that of all our members, is our priority".

Starting this Sabbath at the Lowestoft Church Building, we will no longer do temperature checks, or require face masks. You can of course wear a face mask, it is your choice. Congregational singing will return for the first time in over a year! If you are not feeling well, please stay home and join on Zoom or Facebook. If you are not yet comfortable with this guidance, please feel free to stay home and join on Zoom or Facebook. The Worship Service at 11.15am, will follow the Adult, Children and Teen Sabbath Schools, which start at 10am. The Adult Sabbath School will be in the church hall to help facilitate disussion. The Worship Service will also be on Zoom and Facebook. After the service there will be some lite refreshments.
Be Blessed,

Pastor Mark
