Dear Friends,

The idea of producing this little paper was conceived when we first were locked down under the Government Covid-19 regulations.  Its purpose was to bolster spiritual support for nurturing our church family and friends during that period.  The last issue of The Shepherd’s Voice was on 25 September, a couple of months ago.  Since then there has been another lockdown and so it was felt we should produce another issue.  We do trust you will not only take the time to read it, study and digest its contents, but also enjoy and be blessed by it.
After the close of last Sabbath, we had a brief Elders’ Meeting to consider whether we should resume meetings in our Lowestoft Church on the same basis as we did prior to this recent lockdown.  Subject to the government regulations allowing us, it was agreed that we should return to our physical services as soon as possible but also continue to broadcast the services on Zoom and Livestreaming.  This has been communicated to Pastor Mark Borrett who is currently in California and he has also endorsed the decision.  Since that decision, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the shut-down will be lifted on 2nd December but an announcement will be made this Thursday about those areas that will be under tier restrictions.  Since our district covers both counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, our decision to proceed will be determined by any tier restriction that may be imposed.  Our Church Board had previously ruled that if we moved up into tier 2 or above, we would keep the building closed until it was considered safe to do so.
If all goes well, then we shall be back into our building in Lowestoft on the 5 December for Divine Service at 11:15am.  That being the case, the Children’s Sabbath School on Zoom will revert back to Friday evenings at 6:00 as from the 4 December.
We would encourage all those who are able, to attend the church service; but for those who are unable, the services will still be relayed on Zoom.  We solicit your prayers as we seek to provide for our church family while being responsible citizens.
       May God bless you all.

- Pastor Michael I.  Walker

Late breaking news, as both counties have been placed in Tier 2, we will not be re-opening the church building on December 5th.

We know from the Scriptures that Satan wanted to be god by usurping the place of the true God.  His rebellion in heaven led to his ultimate downfall (Rev.12:7-9; Luke 10:18).  He thought he could run the universe on a better footing than God. When God created this world, He made everything very good (Gen.1:31).  Satan wanted control of this world and when he obtained it, instead of improving it, he wrought havoc and destruction.  God immediately stepped into the arena to bring restoration through His Plan of Redemption for the human race.
In Isa.14:12-21 is the description of Lucifer’s (Satan’s) downfall.  It mentions that he is the one who overthrew the cities, made the earth tremble, and brought destruction and desolation (vs 16,17).  The apostle Paul also refers to him as “the prince of the power of the air” (Eph.2:2). It was also revealed to Ellen White that Satan “has studied the secrets of the laboratories of nature, and he uses all his power to control the elements as far as God allows” - The Great Controversy, p.589.  She further mentions that he
“. . . Will bring disease and disaster, until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation . . . In accidents and calamities by sea and by land, in great conflagrations, in fierce tornadoes and terrific hailstorms, in tempests, floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and earthquakes, in every place and in a thousand forms, Satan is exercising his power . . . He imparts to the air a deadly taint, and thousands perish by the pestilence” - ibid, pp.589,590.
In Isa.13 is the prophecy about Babylon’s downfall and destruction.  The hand of God’s protection was withdrawn from ancient Babylon and Satan was permitted to perform his work of destruction.  This is what the passage in Isa. 14 really points out after proclaiming Babylon’s eventual destruction then by drawing our attention to Satan’s downfall, that will ultimately lead to his own destruction (v.15).  Desolation and death are the inevitable results of Satan’s rule.  The havoc and destruction that will eventually be the outcome of this sinful world, will be the environment in which he will be placed for 1,000 years in that desolate waste surrounded by the corpses of those he has led to destruction (Rev.20:1-3, 7-10).
Similarly, fallen Christendom, referred to in Bible Prophecy as mystical Babylon that has given itself over to the rule of Satan, will likewise meet its downfall.  It is pertinent to note that the apostle John has used the typology of the fall of ancient Babylon to the fall of mystical Babylon in these final days of earth’s history (c.f. Rev.14:8; 16:19; 17:3-6,16,17; 18:2-10; 19:2,3).  The downfall and ultimate destruction of mystic Babylon cannot be averted because it is given over to the rule of Satan and is doomed because Satan’s rule brings disaster, ruination and death.
The important decision for each of us to respond to is which camp are we preparing to belong to?  That of Satan or that of Christ?  I prefer to align myself alongside Christ’s Kingdom by allowing Him to rule my life because while Satan brings destruction, Jesus Christ brings restoration and an eternal life of bliss.  Where do your loyalties lie?  Read Joshua 24:14,15; Revelation 14:12

As I was walking along the promenade at Caister-on-Sea early this morning, the sea was so calm and a sense of peace came over me.  Of course, the sea is not always as calm as it was this morning.  Sometimes it can be violent.  Many lives have been claimed by the sea.  As I was walking along I talked to God and asked Him what this article should be about.  The word ‘Lifeboat’ suddenly dropped into place.  Recently my wife and I have watched TV documentaries on the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) for which many have been extremely grateful.  We’ve witnessed those courageous volunteers, men and women, who respond when the maroon goes off, by manning the lifeboat and heading out into those treacherous waters putting their own lives at risk to save other lives in danger of the sea.
They are to be admired for their bravery, courage and what is sometimes required, their sacrifice (in the ultimate sense, I mean).  Our God has an RMLI (Rescue Mission Lifeboat Institution) and His Son once launched out into the deep to bring salvation to those of this world about to perish in the stormy seas of this life.  He also paid the ultimate price in order to accomplish a successful rescue mission.  If you have been saved by His action, you will no doubt be extremely grateful to Him for saving you.
Have you considered joining the lifeboat crew of the RMLI?  There are souls out there floundering in the dangerous ocean of life.  They are about to drown.  That means they will be lost forever.  The maroon has gone off!  What is your response? Will you join His lifeboat crew and head out into the deep to save those lives?  The Master Coxswain is calling for more crew members to join the rescue Mission now. You will find your instructions in Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18-20.
