Four chess wins for Solefield
Solefield took a team of four students from Year 6 this week to play chess against Russell House. After some hard-fought matches, we were able to win on all four boards.
Special congratulations to Nicholas W. who represented the school at chess for the first time and Ben Do. who came from behind playing as black after losing his queen.

Diversity and Mental Health Message
On Thursday, the singer and songwriter, Irini Mando, gave a performance to students in years 5-8.
After the performance, she discussed mental health, the causes of mental health problems, who to turn to for help and the importance of speaking up. She talked about mental health to body image which has become a real issue for the younger generation linked to social media. She also discussed the importance of treating each other fairly, why diversity should be celebrated, what to do if you're being discriminated against and why it is wrong to discriminate against other people. The boys really enjoyed the experience and asked lots of questions.

Time capsule
Everyone in the school enjoyed being part of our secret time capsule to be hidden behind the wall in the new Little Acorns building, with all boys and staff signing their name on the building wall.

Chinese New Year
Following the wonderful assembly last week, the whole school celebrated Chinese New Year on Monday with a special themed lunch, including Chinese Chicken and Vegetable Chow Mein. Thank you to Shawn (1C), Ray (3H) and Mark (3H) and their families for devising the special menu and for the wonderful themed gifts.

Year 3 STEM cardboard cars
Well done to the Year 3 boys who built these fantastic cardboard cars in STEM with Mr Bowden. Made from cardboard, paper straws, wood discs, laminate sheets and hot glue, they look fantastic on display on the wooden display tree in the library.

SPA plan exciting events
Save the Date: 24th June 2023 for the Solefield “Diamond Anniversary Ball"
The Solefield Parents' Association met last Friday to discuss the exciting events coming up, including the 75th “Diamond Anniversary Ball” on Saturday 24th June 2023.
To commemorate the decade the school was founded, there will be a stunning marquee on the school playground, a jazz band with welcome drinks, a fabulous three course meal, hotly-contested auction, and a DJ until late on a full dance floor. Tickets will be released soon and all proceeds will go towards the new wrapped minibus and further enriching life at Solefield or the boys.

Infamous Music & Curry night
Music & Curry Evening - Friday 3rd March
Tickets are now on sale for the SPA Music and Curry evening from 7-11pm on Friday 3rd March 2023.
Parents are encouraged to perform, and - as anticipated - there will also be several performances from members of staff and the parent band. Tickets can be ordered here and include your delicious curry on the night from Chilli Express.
This event has been a real highlight in previous years, with a wide variety of performances from singers, guitar players, vocal groups and even performances on the French horn and bagpipes. A fully stocked cash and card bar will be available all evening.

Winter Themed Stay & Play
Today, Miss Showell led an engaging Winter Themed Stay & Play. The children had a lovely time listening to a story then made beautiful winter wreaths. Parents and carers in the wider community are very welcome to our Stay & Play sessions, held on alternate Fridays during term time, with our next session on Friday 10th February, 9.45-10.45am.

February Half Term Holiday Camps
Our Camps are back throughout the half term from Monday 13th - Friday 17th February, bookings details were sent to all parents.
Camps are open to all in the Solefield Community including friends and family members.
Cost: Full day camps are £50 per day (9am-4pm). Half day camps are £25 (9am-12pm or 1-4pm). There is no extra charge for the lunch hour 12-1pm for those parents that opt to do two half day camps.

Solefield Art Exhibition 2023
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and families to our annual Solefield Art Exhibition on Friday 3rd February from 5:30-7:30pm.
Every boy in the school will have work on display and all the family are welcome to come along and enjoy the evening.
