Solefield Wins Chess Tournament

This week Solefield took a team of Six Senior boys to the Sevenoaks School Chess Tournament. This event was co-hosted by the English Chess Federation and the Kent Junior Chess Association. Each school that participated, played three rounds of matches, for which points could be earned.

Every match used chess clocks and there was a 15-minute time control which added a new dynamic to the game for our players. The standard of Chess was very high, with many hard-fought matches.

After a very close final round all the point were added up and the Solefield team were thrilled to hear that they had placed first! Well done to our Chess Team!

Year 3 Music and Drama Recital

The Year 3 boys performed a gorgeous recital on Friday night. They each had their chance to shine individually whether it was playing their musical instrument or performing a poem. They also performed 3 group pieces which included the poem inspired by learning about the Romans, a melodica piece ‘Jump Start’ and their finale song ‘Bread’ which they performed for the Harvest Festival. I felt so proud of these boys, and it was truly magical to see how much they have grown in confidence. My thanks to Mr Fenning for his organisation of the music and our wonderful peri music & drama teachers who have prepared the boys so well.

Wellbeing Lessons around the Christmas Tree

Wellbeing lessons were extra special this week. All classes had a cosy half hour sitting around the Christmas Tree, drinking hot chocolate and listening to stories. The boys thoroughly enjoyed what has now become a Solefield tradition at Christmas time. Many thanks to the amazing staff at Holroyd Howe for making the lovely hot chocolate and biscuits for us to enjoy.

French Storytelling Workshop

On Monday morning, we enjoyed a French storytelling workshop. All of Pre-prep and years 3 to 6 were fully immersed in two traditional fairytales.

Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk were brought to life in French, some boys eagerly volunteered to take part in the storytelling and showcased their fabulous acting and language skills!

It was like a mini pantomime, with lots of audience participation!

We left the room feeling brighter and more confident about our French speaking and listening skills.

Bravo!

Black History Week

We have been overwhelmed by the number of pupils who have researched and presented projects this term on the theme of Black History and influential people. Thanks to all parents for the support of their sons with this and to all boys who took part. We have shared their work in form time and assemblies with the rest of the school but here are some examples to give you an idea of the quality of work produced.

Solefield links up with France

We have been forging a link with a school in France, thanks to a former member of staff who lives in Toulon. Years 7 and 8 have introduced themselves to the pupils at Cours Fénelon, Toulon, in Provence. We have enjoyed reading messages from our French friends and finding out about their interests.

The boys have also put together a PowerPoint describing our Christmas traditions in the UK. We are looking forward to receiving a message from our French friends telling us about their Christmas in France. After the holidays the Year 7 and 8 boys will be allocated an individual pupil so that they can set up a penfriend exchange.

We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to keeping you up to date about our links in France!

Every boy graded with either a stripe or belt. Well done boys.

Solefield selected as 'highlight' school

Solefield School belongs to the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS). IAPS has 663 schools in membership (of which 47 can be found outside the UK). IAPS schools must reach a very high standard to be eligible for membership of IAPS, with strict criteria on teaching a broad curriculum, maintaining excellent standards of pastoral care and keeping staff members’ professional development training up to date. All IAPS schools are committed to delivering an excellent, well-rounded education to the pupils in their care.

I am delighted to share that we have been chosen as a 'highlight' school for IAPS and here is a recent article shared by them about us.

Our school community makes Solefield what it is and I am immensely grateful to you all our staff, pupils, parents and governors for all their support.
