Harvest Festival

On the morning of Thursday 6th October, we had our Harvest Festival. Boys and staff brought in lots of food bank donations which will be going to local charities who support people within the community who need it most. Our donations will be helping families from all over Sevenoaks who are being affected by the current crisis. Thank you to all who brought in donations - a very good example of our school community coming together.

To celebrate the Harvest Festival, we had a wonderful assembly full of beautiful songs and poems performed by the whole school. From Reception performing ‘Big Red Combine Harvester' to Year 5 singing ‘The Greatest Sow’. Year 7 and 8 read us lovely Harvest Poems, all about how Harvest is a time for giving and being thankful. We also had a wonderful performance from our Chamber Choir, singing ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’. It was a really lovely morning and a good chance for all year groups to showcase their talents...

Catering news

This week, the Holroyd Howe catering team prepared a delicious meal of Caribbean food, as part of Black History Month. Boys enjoyed jerk chicken/Quorn as well as Jamaican ginger cake. We also enjoyed a Harvest Festival themed lunch on Thursday, with harvest cobbler and orchard crumble, as well as pupils learning how to make bread in bread making workshops.

Also, as part of our Diwali celebrations, our Vegetarian Food Rep, Aryan in 5E, met with Kadine from Holroyd Howe to help devise a special Diwali menu which the whole school will enjoy next Thursday, along with Diwali workshops.

Year 3 Trip to Lullingstone

Year 3 have been learning all about the Romans and Roman mythology in their English and History lessons this half term. They enjoyed a fascinating trip to the Lullingstone Roman Villa on Thursday morning to support this.

The boys heard all about the origins of the villa and why it was there in the first place. They learnt about the different rooms in the villa and some of the interesting pastimes the romans experienced. The boys listened really well and cannot wait to come to school to start writing their own roman myth next week!

A great Quiz Night

The Solefield Parents' Association (SPA) would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents and staff who attended the Quiz Night on Friday in the school hall. The incredible generosity of those who attended raised a fantastic £2,100 for the school, bringing us closer to our £40,000 target to buy a new stylishly wrapped bus for the boys. Special thanks goes to all the parent volunteers who helped coordinate the event and Nick and Julia Auer, who took the time to coordinate and compere a superb quiz. Our donation link is here if you felt able to contribute.

There will be many more opportunities to support SPA and raise funds for the school this year, from the ever-popular music and curry night and summer party, to new initiatives such as our Christmas Jumper and World Book Day swap shops....

London Marathon Thanks

A message from Duncan, Dad to Jonathan in Year 8, who ran the London marathon on 2nd October for Alopecia UK:

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the support in getting my marathon fundraising mentioned around the school. When the last pledges come through we should have raised over £2,300, which is almost a quarter of the target Alopecia UK had set for Alopecia Awareness month overall, and a large proportion of this came from people with Solefield connections.

As you may know, the charity have been hugely helpful for Jonathan in the last couple of years so it’s great to be able to give something back. So really appreciate the efforts and donations that have come via the school."
