World Book Week Adventures
We have had a roar-some week of Book Activities. The Reading Reps led assembly on Monday with a Literary Lost Property Quiz. Hot chocolate sessions for all of the school have been held at Library break times. Wednesday saw a whole school 'book buddy' session with all the boys buddying up with another class to talk all things book! On Thursday the 'Best School Dinosaur Shelf' was unveiled by Mrs McClure and the Reading Reps, with a dino-zone and celebratory Dino lunch (thanks to our caterers, Jane, Kadine & Amy). From today, SPA are running a Book fair - please read the bulletin for details as the library can get lots of free books!
We are still accepting entries for the Extreme Reading competition and all entries will be displayed in out Library gallery, with judging next week.

Clay Workshop
This week we were visited by a clay artist, Sally Ebra, who helped us create some clay leaves. All the boys and staff created a leaf which will become part of a whole school artwork to celebrate our 75th Anniversary. Sally has done workshops at Solefield before when she helped create the millennium clay work in the dining hall, 23 years ago!
We will be painting our leaves in Art lessons next week and we hope to complete the final artwork next term.

Solefield Hosts IAPS Heads
This week, Solefield School hosted 18 Heads throughout Kent for the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) District Heads Meeting. Many thanks to Mrs Koheji who gave a brilliant talk to all the Heads about wellbeing at Solefield; they were all very impressed with what we do and with everything else they saw at Solefield.
Thanks to our Year 8 boys who were fantastic ambassadors when giving the Heads a tour of our wonderful school. We weren't expecting a fire alarm, but in true Solefield style, everyone just got on with it and one of the Heads said that he thought we should all have a fire drill when hosting, to see if it is as good as Solefield's!

A Week of Chess
There have been two chess events this week with the Year 3&4s heading to Radnor House on Tuesday for a joint informal chess session and our Alumni chess evening on Wednesday
Although this was not a formal competition, the boys played really well and for several it was their first time representing the school at chess. Particular recognition should go to Louis P (Y4) who played on board 1, getting a draw from a much more experienced player. Also to the Year 3 students in attendance who only started learning the rules of chess in September. Click on the link to read more about both events.

We are delighted that our second Spitfire constructed by the whole school during our Spitfire workshop last term, will be on display at our local Sevenoaks library.
This is an exact replica of the Spitfire 'flying' in situ above our library. Both models are an exciting addition for our 75th anniversary and in honour of our longstanding Head, Mr Ridler who was a Spitfire pilot.

Solefield Alumni Chess Event
Alumni Chess Event
The Alumni chess event on Wednesday was well attended and it was great to welcome back previous students and play some games. The standard of chess was very high and it was clear that many Solefield boys are continuing to play keenly after leaving. Our Judo coach Mr Burkett was also in attendance with his hand carved chess set which impressed the group and was a lovely talking point. The event was overwhelmingly positive and as such we would very much like to run it again next year.
