Hello Friend!
Welcome back! We hope you've had a safe summer. The wildfires raging across California bring to light how fragile our Mediterranean climate is and this Fall we want to share with you some of the ways permaculture can help provide us with abundance, be water resourceful and proactive about fire safety.

We've been busy getting our Fall line up together to bring you new CPG Gatherings, PermaBlitzes and more! Check out our upcoming events and our latest blog article, Permaculture in Action: Designing a PermaBlitz! We're sharing a behind the scenes look into how we put on a 'Blitz for our PermaBlitz Hosts and community.

We also want to show our gratitude to Chico Natural Foods Cooperative!

'Permaculture Foundation'

Sunday, August 19th from 10am - 1pm
As an introduction to permaculture and its application to PermaBlitz #4 the Chico Permaculture Guild hosts two Pre-'Blitz Gatherings, the first of which is Sunday, August 19th at the Chico Library Meeting Room (1108 Sherman Ave.).

This Gathering will cover the foundation of permaculture, the Ethics and Principles, and their practical application to the Host site for PermaBlitz #4 located in Paradise, Ca.

An interactive forum will take place between 2-3 short presentations as we move through the 12 Holmgren permaculture principles.
Every CPG Gathering is a Potluck and 'Share the Surplus Swap'!

• Please bring a small dish to SHARE as well as your own dishes, utensils, and cup for the POTLUCK. There are limited dishes available in the library so please remember to bring your own if you can. If you do use library dishes we ask that you wash them when you are done.
• If you have anything in SURPLUS (vegetables, home preserved food, eggs, fruit, seed, plant starts etc.) please bring it along and we’ll ‘Share the Surplus’ after the Potluck.

CNF Round Up

During the month of June Earthshed Solutions was part of Chico Natural Foods Cooperative's 'Round Up Program'.

By CNF members simply choosing to Round Up their grocery receipts we were able to raise more than $1,600!!

The funds raised from the Round Up Program will be utilized to promote the growth of our Education Programs, specifically the Earthshed PermaBlitz, a community building and skill sharing program based on permaculture design.

THANK YOU Chico Natural Foods!!

Designing a PermaBlitz

Behind the scenes look into an Earthshed PermaBlitz.
October's PermaBlitz #4 is underway with the Host site assessment and base map complete and the concept overlays are in the works. We'd thought we'd share how the PermaBlitz magic happens by detailing some of things that occur to make each PermaBlitz such a great day. But first, who are the people who put on a PermaBlitz?

The Earthshed Solutions' PermaBlitz Committee are the folks who do the leg work for a PermaBlitz. This group of volunteers is comprised of the design team & interns, board members and others committed to helping bring free permaculture education to our community. They organize the 'Blitz, strategize the flow of the day, detail out the projects and activities based on the Host's permaculture design and work hard to ensure a fun day is had by all. They're super awesome, huh?!

Specifically, it's the design team and interns who draw up the permaculture design for the Host. They follow a structured approach to begin but, when making design decisions later on, they utilize a very non-linear methodology. Does that sound confusing? It probably does, but it really isn’t.

Let's tackle this one step at a time...

Step Zero: Permaculture Principles
Step One: The Host Questionnaire
Step Two: Host Visit & Site Assessment
Step Three: Research
Step Four: Design Methods
Step Five: Concept Designs
