Our Ministry Together - ELCIC

Our Ministry Together is a series of short videos intended to highlight and celebrate areas of our common mission across the Eastern Synod, many of which are funded through congregational benevolence.

This month we spend time with our National Bishop Susan Johnson, who tells us about the role of the ELCIC in expanding the ministries of individual synods by building relationships and establishing partnerships.

We encourage you to share these videos on social media and during mediated worship. All videos will be featured on our YouTube channel, and alternatively can be downloaded HERE.

For more information about the Our Ministry Together project, or to submit photos that highlight our Eastern Synod ministries for upcoming videos, please contact Rev. Adam Snook (asnook@elcic.ca).

Thank you for your gifts of prayer and financial support!

This is, indeed, Our Ministry Together!

The Bishops’ Company for Mission, a gathering of lay-people and extra-mile givers, has been convened as a way to support mission opportunities throughout the Synod, above and beyond budgetary means.

This year we will welcome Deacon Sherry Coman as our Guest Speaker.

The Bishops’ Company for Mission will gather online on October 19th at 1 pm with a repeat of the same event on October 20th at 7 pm.

Come be a part of this time of learning and conversation. Click here to learn more.

Lutheran, Anglican Bishops Write To The Prime Minister About The Climate Crisis

Bishops from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada have written to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the climate crisis. Their calls for action come as the Canadian government prepares to participate in next month's UN Climate Change Conference. The full letter can be viewed here.

Videos @LutherWaterloo

Videos are now available online for two recent Luther events: The Luther Day of Community and Gratitude, and Breaking Barrier, Nurturing Networks: A Commissioning Service for Rev. Dr. Kristine Lund, as Luther’s new principal-dean, and new faculty and staff. If you were not able to participate in either event, feel free to find the videos on Luther’s YouTube channel. Luther’s Day of Community and Gratitude video includes a tribute to Luther’s auxiliary (Women’s Auxiliary).

Support Your Loved Ones and Make a Difference

You have more power to make a difference to your church and your community than you may realize.  Even leaving a small portion of your estate in your Will to support the mission of your congregation can result in a bigger contribution than you ever thought possible, while still supporting those you love. In short, you can do both!

You may be surprised to see that a gift of even 1% left to your congregation or the wider church in your Will can have an enormous impact, while still leaving 99% of your estate for loved ones.  We encourage you to try out the easy to use legacy calculator on our Will Power page, https://www.willpower.ca/charities/elfec to see how a gift in your Will can support and strengthen the ministries you most deeply care about.  You can find out more here.

If you have questions about supporting the mission of your congregation or the wider church through ELFEC, please don’t hesitate to connect with ELFEC today at ksmith@elfec.ca or by calling 1-888-308-9461 x2. ELFEC is here to help.

LivingWorks START Training

Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council is offering free LivingWorks START training to landlords and superintendents.  LivingWorks START training teaches trainees to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and how to connect them to help and support. This training is about 2 hours and is being offered online.  You can pause and resume the training as needed to allow for some flexibility.  If you would like more information or are interested in signing up, please contact hsnook@wrspc.ca.
