Happy #LesbianVisibilityWeek2021 to all the trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, BIPOC, femme, butch, stud, stem, ace, and aro lesbians in our #YEG community! To celebrate this week, we've curated a special edition of the Prairie Pride News Roundup!

Dive into Edmonton's queer history and learn about Womonspace  the city’s longest running lesbian organization! Established in 1981, Womonspace hosted dances, softball games, ski trips, potlucks, camping trips, gym nights and other social events for lesbian and queer women, and published a monthly newsletter, mailed to to members in discreet envelopes. The Pride Team was thrilled to find a digital archive of these newsletters, thanks to the Rise Up! a digital archive of feminist history, and The Alberta Women's Memory Project

Looking for a new podcast? Hear more from lesbians across the country and globe on The Lesbian Testimony Podcast, a project by the Archives of Lesbian Oral Testimony! Join comedians Carolyn Bergier and Melody Kamali of Dyking Out as they cover an array of topics relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community with a lineup of special guests. Listen in as author and journalist Shon Faye talks with queer trailblazers and elders on Call me Mother. Find more great queer podcasts with these recommendations from Feedspot and the Advocate

Recognize, celebrate and support 2SLBTQIA+ Women with Diva Magazine's Lesbian Visibility Week event lineup  featuring a variety of virtual discussions that you can watch live or on-demand. Some of our favourite conversations include "Lesbians Beyond the Binary", "Queer Women of Colour", and "Intersex Inclusion and Representation"
Although there was a significant lack of 2SLGBTQIA+ representation at the 93rd Academy Awards, we're excited to see more queer characters and stories coming to our screens this spring.

On May 23, Master of None returns for a third season but this time Lena Waithe is stepping into the spotlight alongside co-star Naomi Ackie in a lesbian love story that explores the ups and downs of marriage through the lens of queer women of colour. Although we're excited about the possibilities of the show's new direction, Jamilah Lewis-Horton had some insightful criticism to offer in her latest article for Bust.

Actress and Comedian Patti Harrison will also be stepping into the spotlight in a new platonic rom-com Together Together, as she plays a 26-year-old loner acting as a surrogate for single dad-to-be Matt, played by Ed Helms. You can read more about the film, the anxiety of participating in a virtual film festival, and the representation of marginalized communities onscreen in Patti's latest interview with Vogue.

This Lesbian Visibility Week learn about 19 incredible lesbians that are loudly and visibly making the world a better place for all queer people5 queer Canadian women who shaped our country's history for the better; and a Canadian court system that officially ended misgendering in the courtroom

Speaking of pronouns, if you or someone you know is struggling to come out as nonbinary, writer and social worker Kai Cheng Thom has some wonderful advice for newly-out non-binary people navigating how to be open with the people they love
In a multi-dollar industry dominated by and centred around thin, cis, affluent white people, QT & BIPOC folks are not only fighting for health equity but reclaiming wellness beyond self-care.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Mandy Martini Chihuailaf and Josie Valadez Fraire discuss the impact of capitalism, white supremacy, and settler colonialism on wellness, the importance of communal and interpersonal care, and how Indigenous teachings and knowledge can improve the wellbeing of all living things.

In 2016, in the immediate aftermath of Trump's presidential election, Queer Arab femme Randa Jarrar took a cross-country round trip across America to write through her PTSD and clear space for a badass queer future. The result? A memoir that maps out a journey, connecting many disparate locations from queer sex parties in BDSM dungeons to racist patrons in rundown gas stations

How do we lean on community when physically distancing also protects those we love? A journalist in London found self care in Club Kali, a legendary now-virtual South Asian night club

Following an onslaught of anti-trans bills and legislations, a federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit claiming that Connecticut schools were discriminating against cis female athletes by allowing trans girls to compete against them. South Carolina, one of America's most conservative states, also rejected an anti-trans sports bill for a second time. Tomorrow, Elliot Page will be speaking to Oprah on Apple+ TV in support of trans youth

Meanwhile, in Canada, #LesbianActivity became a trending hashtag on Twitter after a video of Conservative MP Tamara Jansen pushing back against a bill that would ban 2SLGBTQIA+ conversion therapy went viral a couple of weeks back

While Bill C-6, which would end conversion therapy across the country, is likely to pass, Conservative 'concern trolling' has lead to a stall.

The Liberal government has unveiled the latest federal budget, which promises an “inclusive, intersectional recovery that builds a truly equitable society" and includes dedicated funding for queer communities. But is it enough? The consensus is split.
