Distracted Driving Awareness
When participating in a video conference, be sure that you are parked at a safe location prior to joining the conference. Encourage coworkers to be responsible and eliminate all distractions while driving. No One Gets Hurt: Go For Zero.
Teamwork Fast Tracks Water Main Repair
As potential severe weather approached in the late afternoon of March 18, an underground water main break occurred at Greek Village causing water to bubble up and fill the Fraternity Court roadway. Multiple departments mobilized quickly to isolate the problem and complete the repair. Collaborators include:
  • Customer Service Center
  • Building Maintenance and Operations Zone Shop 4
  • Greek Life Housing Facilities
  • Environmental Health & Safety
  • Utilities & Engineering Services
  • Capital Project Management
  • Waste Reduction & Recycling
  • Greek Village Phase 4 Construction management firm, Frank L. Blum Construction Company
In a matter of hours, this team worked together to remove pavement, deliver materials, isolate and repair the leak, reestablish water service and reopen the road. This quick response embodied excellent customer service, as well as stewardship to limit the impact of the water main break.
New Campus Parking Lot
512 Brickhaven has a new parking lot thanks to NCDOT and the I-440 widening project. The project was managed by Lynn Swank, with Capital Project Management, and creates 100+ parking spaces accompanied by new lighting, landscaping, blue light phone, and a bio-retention pond. The Design-Build project delivery method allowed NC State to pick both the general contractor and designer at the beginning, which led to a quicker and more cost-effective project. Despite rainy weather, Landscape Construction Services hustled to get the plantings installed on-schedule, and the parking lot opening was held on March 15th.
Employee Emergency Loan Program
Effective April 2, the new program will allow NC State faculty, staff, county employees, house officers and postdoctoral scholars to borrow money for short-term emergencies. Eligible employees can apply for a short-term loan and must pay the loan back via payroll deduction. Examples of situations warranting the use of an emergency loan may include: a family medical emergency, threatened foreclosure, eviction, rent arrears at a primary residence, emergency automobile repairs and termination of utilities.
